There's no way Nate Hawbaker's favorite hero is Alan Stuart

ALAN IS A BEAUTIFUL MAN!

Sorry I HAD to drag you in here to read my thoughts, but I ran out of room in the title. So here's the backdrop: When I visit other forums I see the OP's first comment at the top of the page. When going to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th (etc...)pages, the OP's post would still be shown up at the top, as a reminder of what we're talking about.

Would you guys like this idea for ( Example ) when you are in a heated debate on a topic (and there are multiple pages) and forgot what the main topic of the thread was and you don't want to go back, Boom, it's right there.

I also realize people tend to read the OP before posting, but if you're keeping up with a hot topic it can be a pain having to go back and see what you were exactly talking about.

Thoughts?

I like it. The only issue is see, however, are gigantic walls of OP. That might get a little annoying to see across several pages.

If i want to re-read the op i will simply go back to the first page and read it. Not really that big of an inconvenience.

Good point. I could see them having a filter where if it passes 'x' amount of words it would hide the rest unless you click a button saying 'show'.

But from my perspective it could improve the site, especially when having a scientific debate and you want to compare/contrast.

Yeah, that would be annoying. Maybe if there was an option to toggle it on or off.

I don't have a problem with having to go back to page 1 to read the OP again. Threads seem to become less about the OP and more about recent posts as a thread goes on anyway.

It could work. It could only show the first few lines and there would be a button to expand it, like this:

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”

I have never been in a heated debate only to suddenly realize that I have forgotten what I was arguing about.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

Sounds great. This feature could help members stay on topic too since they're reminded of what they're supposed to be discussing.

Sincerely, the voice inside your head for whenever you read things.

It would be cool to have a vote up/down button next to every post. Also, an option to turn the filter off.

Key

Yeah, but with long OPs they'd have to be minimized by default so as to not get in the way of other posts.

A remedy for this would be that it's a different color foreground or text, letting you know that this is, without a doubt, the original comment.

Nah, there would be a clash of colors. I still don't like it.

The OP should make sure that the topic is properly represented in the topic bar. Though, I know what you mean. When you are sitting there with that huge post having to edit it about 4 times to make sure all the quote boxes aren't messing up, it can lead to some problems.

I don't think it's necessary, but it's an OK idea. But there are ways to get around it; like opening a new tab (as already mentioned in this thread).

While this is a good work-around, if the site could be improved would you like the addition? Or would you have them leave it out?

I could see a drop down bar being effective.
