Ok so we know that the flood is held caontained on the halos wether to study or just to simply contain from an outbreak. Very few have touched upon the fact that combat flood forms are used to carry out labor as well as offensive/defensive actions. I am gonna start by saying that i'm not implying that the flood are the forerunner. (though in some views it could be possible and i'll touch upon that later on.) If we are to say that the forerunner are a seperate race, then let's just say that they are a race of unfathomable intelligence, but less than adequate physical presence for carrying out their wills. Let's not forget that the forerunner kept the flood alive and contained, and it is even implied that the flood was NEEDED alive for whatever you can come up with - survival - research - and to my point in discussion - manual labor. If it were true that the forerunner were not really all that much of a physical presence if any at all, then perhaps they kept the flood alive for purposes of labor. All these structural anomolies we find around the universe of halo must have took long enough to build, so why not get some help? Why not use the flood to carry out the labor? Why couldn't it have been the flood who built halo under the direction of the forerunner? Which really doesnt explain the forerunner button toward the beginning of the sacre icon level with a human-like hand with two thumb appendages on either side, nor does it explain the assimilation of the Gravemind. I don't think i've quite hit the mystery on the nose, but i figured I'd add to the speculation and hopefully someone may tell me if I'm even close.

(maybe the forerunner were just ambudexterous on both their hands?)

Good summary, but I don't think Bungie used flood in attent for building. Nor Forerunners.

To be totally honest I think that the Flood would rather eat the Forerunners than help the Forerunners kill their own race.

Original though, at least i've never seen it before.

The Forerunners and The Flood were at war with one another, and when at war, enemies tend to gather as much info on their opponents as they can. When in war, you can't actually eliminate everyone that isn't on your side, so the Forerunners would have to keep some of the Flood for study. Also, the Forerunners could not use The Flood for slave labour, because they are a parasite, and can only hold weapons once they take over a body.

Just the very paradoxical thought is mind-numbingly comical!

I don't think manual labor is in the flood's highest interests...

I am...whimsical today.

Don't forget that the Forerunners also had robotic helpers to aid them, that is if they were not physically capable.
I do agree that the Forerunners may have been trying to use the Flood for something tho :)

I seriously doubt that the Flood even have brains, i think they just mooch off of other people's brains.
