Subject: How connected are you?

So I made this thread just under three years ago. I figure it'd be nice to see how times have changed.

So how can we contact other people casually we meet on Bungie.net? Most of us will use the forums, private groups, PMs, Messenger, and Xbox Live.

But I propose to you a hypothetical situation. Let us say that all Bungie and Microsoft controlled resources shut down for no apparent reason. Would you have any way to contact the friends you have made on Bungie.net? Just how integrated are you into this community? If Bungie.net and XBL Services were down, this would mean no MSN Messenger, PMs, Xbox Live communication... Nada. And since Bungie.net would be down, that means if you save your information with others in a private group article or something, they can't reference that either.

Do any other members have your phone number? Do you communicate with them regularly? How about e-mails? Or perhaps you live near others and can physically visit them!

A few people have my cell phone number and I theirs, though I'm generally very selective about that. I'd say around a half dozen people to a dozen people have mine and I theirs (I just counted and I have six peoples' numbers I met on Bungie.net). My e-mail less so, though I still don't hand it out freely. If everything were to suddenly disappear, I would be more or less out of a lot of friends I've made here. I think that's a real shame. Maybe I'll need to fix that sometime soon.

So Community. How connected are you? And how left in the dust would you be if this were to occur? And if you were to be put in this situation... do you feel enough of a part in this community to where you would actually want to communicate with any of the people here? Are there people you would trust with your information then?

I am curious if answers have evolved since 2009.

I don't think anyone here would be able to contact me.

  • 07.28.2012 8:58 PM PDT

I have one phone number and a lot of emails. Plus I could visit quite of few of them in the Seattle area.

Twitter, Skype, Google+ and GAF would be my biggest connections.

I tend to have most of my Xbox Live friends from bungie.net and various other community websites on those lists. I could only count the number of online friends that have my phone number on one hand (and they don't even post anymore on bungie.net).

I have some B.net/Xbox live friends added on FB,TT and G+ and we regularly talk. So probably only them.

I have a couple mods that I follow on twitter. I'm facebook friends with only a select few users that I game with a lot. It would suck a lot though, I was just thinking recently that I use the PM system here more like text messaging really. I like chatting with specific users, but at the same time, I'm too nervous to give out any more information than this place.

But in the end, I wouldn't lose too many friends. I don't talk to them often anyway, and not many people here know me on any sort of personal level; no one here knows me in person.

But there is one friend who I would dearly miss from here, were this too happen. We have no other way of communication, save the PM system, and Xbox Live.

Also, phone number is out of the question. I'd never give it to anyone I haven't met before.

No one would be able to contact me. The only real contact I have with my friends on here is through Bungie.net and Xbox Live. So I guess if they both cease to exist, so too would my contact with people from here.

I have a good few members on here integrated into my "social network". Phone numbers, Skype, Facebook, e-mail, etc. I'd lose a good few, but I'd still be in touch with a great few.

Hate Skype. Give me your cell phone number and stop claiming you don't have one then we'll hang.

Anyways, I totally forgot about Facebook now that some of you are mentioning it... erg. I have a strict real life =/= Bungie.net life policy. At least from that end. I don't like letting people in my regular life know about Bungie.net too much (though everyone I'm lose to knows I spend 99% of my internet time here), because the last time they mixed it caused me a small disaster.

There are 5 people that have my phone number but they don't really come to Bungie.net. I'm very very selective to who I give my number to. 4 out those 5 people I have known for about 7 years so I trust them.

I agree with that policy. It's how I roll too, and the only reason I ever friended a couple of those guys on Facebook was because I actually enjoy talking to them and stuff. It's not even Bungie-based friendship anymore, but even so, I'm not too committed to keeping them there for long right now.

Oh, so that would explain all that string running through my front yard. I was wondering where that came from.

I'd lose contact with a lot of the people I know from here. With that said though, the people I talk to the most on here I wouldn't lose contact with so easily. I follow a few of them on Twitter and have a couple on my Facebook friends list as well.

We aren't here to ruin your experience (Well Qbix is).

No. Last time I added someone from Bungie I ended up getting deleted. Apparently I wasn't that "pro" lol. I've never given my number or anything personal-related.

When I was admin of a group I shared my cell number with my fellow admins. Not sure if they still have it, but other than that I shared my cell number with one person I met through B.net, but we haven't chatted in a long time. I have a fair amount of friends on Facebook that I've met on B.net. I have a few on MSN as well (too bad I never use it anymore). I also have a couple on Skype. All in all, I would be stay in contact with a few people.
