Subject: Why is Reach boring?

Posted by: THOMSY99
Reach still has my attention.

I still get my 30 seconds of fun.

If you have not played already and want a break from Halo, or need something new, highly rcommend BF3 (Battle Field).

Is alot like COD, only you get tanks, much better.

I recognize BF3's current superiority, but it doesn't fill that competitive arena-style void.

Ever since the release of it's beta, Reach has been the only game out there worth playing. They continually update the game with new challenges and game types, which is more than I can say for anything else out there. Further, they carefully monitor for hacks and mods to preserve the purity of the game for everyone who signs in to play. How in your esteemed opinion do you figure it went down-hill?

It's more likely that you're some COD fan-boy who's just trolling. Frankly, I think you ought to feel thankful that this websites MODs haven't shut down this pathetic post.

We have the modern Sigmund Freud here, ladies and gentleman! Apparently if you don't like reach, it's because you're secretly a CoD fanboy who's trolling!

LOL. Kid, the game isn't fun because the killtimes take forever. Games mostly end when the timer runs out, and not when a team gets to 50, and if they do get to 50, there's usually less than 2 minutes left in the game anyway. That barely happened in Halo 3.

There is no incentive. There is no level rank, but a playtime rank, which makes it boring. Halo 3 was about leveling up to a 50 and staying there, while Reach is about dressing up your spartan. Once that's done, most people are done with the game. Firefight is way too easy also. I could go on forever, but in my opinion and apparently a lot of others, reach blows and is boring as hell.

Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Oh yeah, and boot Zome.

Because when you search as a full party you match nothing but thumbless randoms. Conversely, when you search as a random, you match nothing but full parties.

I like Reach and find it fun. Of course, I lose at least 90% of the time, but I don't mind. I just enjoy being in the game.

Reach is fun if you like playing video games for the fun of it... not seeing if you can attain a rank through somehow be able to keep it. Hardcore gamers need to learn that not every game is modeled to cater to one's ego and self-serving means.

I like playing Reach "for the fun of it". My idea of fun, though, entails having opponents with more than a brain cell between them.

The rest of your post makes no sense as it is an unwarranted attack on "hardcore" (I think you confused hardcore for competitive) players. You don't see me condemning players for playing casually. This is exactly the kind of mindset that makes self-proclaimed casuals such as yourselves into the very jerks you'd like to make everyone think competitive gamers are.

Not everything competitive players want are meant to "cater to their egos". We want competition. That's not too much to ask for. At least, it shouldn't be. I also fail to see where self-serving comes into play at all.

I seriously don't understand why people like you have such an irrational vendetta against competitive players. I bet you hate MLG, too. Further, I bet you have no legitimate reason for hating it besides you not understanding the community or how to play it.

The campaign is boring because its to short and bungie lost their love of making halo games after 10 years, and because their best people were probably taking a break after working on ODST. (thus the reason ODST's campaign is so good and Reachs failed)

as for multiplayer, most of its maps were pulled straight from campaign and lacked creativity, and the gameplay was probably hardly improved after the beta as a result of its success

but thats my opinion as to why reach is boring

In the name of God
Impure souls of the living dead
Shall be banished to eternal damnation
AMEN

Boring as hell and the people I play against are either brain dead or are robots.

Exactly. And people like me don't want competition. The fail is that Microsoft and/or Bungie were unable to come up with a matching system that keeps these two incompatible groups separated.

If I wanted to compete I would get lessons and then buy some actual hand eye coordination.

You make two separate categories of playlists instead of lumping both together. Clearly, that won't work now since not enough people still play the game to support such a categorization, but it's just another one of those things that should have been there from day one.

Like a balanced sandbox, good maps, and at least one playlist that didn't have everything that Reach changed.

The 343 forums suck. They're full of retarded kids and mods who got butthurt in the B.net forums for being told that they're bad.

This is the type of player that Reach has been made for: the short-term casual that will play for a slight amount and then leave.

30 seconds of fun is about all I get from this game anymore.

There is no incentive. There is no level rank, but a playtime rank, which makes it boring.

What do you want? A cookie when you win? A shiny gold star? You can say Reach is the worst game ever made, and I'd be fine with that as I dislike aspects of Reach as well. But saying that you are only rewarded with the satisfaction of winning and not a number next to your GT is a bad thing is idiotic. If showing your 1337 rankz to all the big boys on the battle field on is your idea of incentive, then Halo 3 will be THE ONLY game you'll ever enjoy.

BTW, I'm not against 1-50, I actually like it. But it does not make or break a game unless you only play a game for numbers.

Funny, people claim it is boring/really bad etc but they still play and they are over the general rank.

No incentive to play really.

I just got Inheritor because I was a super completionist and had a ton of free time on my hands. I'd be scared to think how much I'd play if it had a decent ranking system.

It's because it was still the better game out at the time. There isn't another competitive arena shooter on the market that's notable.

At this point, I've stopped bothering with it. I may get back with it a few days before Halo 4 just so that my aim is good or maybe to play some customs in Private Groups, but it just doesn't have enough appeal to keep me playing it over games like BF3 PC, SWTOR, and Company of Heroes that I play now.

MM is only worth playing with friends (which is all that kept me going on it up until now) and even they have drifted away from it.

Because, and I'd like most would agree; Reach is one of the few games that isn't nearly as terrible as MOST games available.

The flood is always butthurt about something.

KotOR

Because that is your opinion. Many other people don't find Reach boring, myself included.
So speak for yourself. Maybe it is boring for you because it isn't your type of Halo. Deal with it and move on.

  • 08.03.2012 10:20 PM PDT

Search for 10 minutes.

Win by obscene margin.

Rince and repeat add infinium.

That is all Halo games bro. Reach is not different.
