"Ignore feature" by dazarobbo

Crap like this is intolerable.

I apologize for bringing up an old idea but tonight's events prompted it. Would you support the idea of the ability to permanently and at will have the ability to hide users posts so you never really have to deal with them. I realize that ignoring individuals on this site is rather difficult for some and it can be tempting to initiate contact with trouble makers so having a tool like this may come in handy...note, this will only affect your own display and not anyone else. What say you community?

The better version bellow.

"It's an imperfect solution for an imperfect world."
Sometimes the most imperfect ideas can be the perfect solution.

Example?

I just think there should be a "hide all posts from this user" button.
That's what I'm suggesting...Lemme guess...I worded this terribly. Basically any users you have listed will have collapsed posts like when they're reported...you just have to manually reveal them.

i agree, sounds like you could model it off of XBOX live's mute system, you could also incorporate a reputation system to warn people if certain members are more prone to make stupid decisions posting wise.

The poison I refer to is THIS. Please note that the post continues off the page.

Having the ability to collapse posts like this till the user's banned is a valuable asset.

I love you [b]

Lotta work but I like the Idea...
I'll be on live today (hopefully) and would love to discuss it in terms of the programming options and use.

No, it'd be incredibly confusing. Humans are born with the skill to ignore.

Then they should be banned. Ive never heard of changing the rules for rule breakers because they cannot follow rules.

Except no ban is permanent.

This idea has positives and negatives really. Obviously users will only ignore people they can't tolerate so it would stop arguments, but it's effectively censoring peoples' opinions too.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

We have Perma Bans and if people are incapable of controlling their urges to be a jerk to other people, I frankly don't want them on this site, period.

But if you aren't going to take their opinion seriously anyways then does it matter?

Yes. I don't get the argument against it; if I don't want to see your posts, why should I have to? You can do it on NeoGAF and there isn't a problem there (though I've never used it, and probably wouldn't here. There's always exceptions though, I guess).

  • 07.29.2012 9:18 AM PDT

Yes, we should have the option to ignore users.

So an ignore function would be good, because you could get rid of all the jerks yourself.

No, I really don't think I should be trying to appease the jerks.

Hiding the problem does not solve the problem.

Nah Bungie ninjas probably likes to create new accounts and toy with the masses. Be less enjoyable if your censoring the hilarity.
