So an ignore function would be good, because you could get rid of all the jerks yourself.

No, I really don't think I should be trying to appease the jerks.

Hiding the problem does not solve the problem.

How is choosing not to see someone "appeasing" them?

And in this case, hiding someone does solve the problem of them being jerks to you. If they move on to someone else, then that person will ignore them, and the next one, until the annoying person is left in a vacuum with no one to annoy but themselves.

Appeasement indeed.

Sounds like a bad idea.

Why?
Missing conversations, repeat posts, asking things that have been answered or vice versa(which happens a lot anyway but whatever).

Just don't respond to people that irk you but still read what they say, it's not that hard.

The real reason is that I don't want to be deprived of potential funny arguments.

Missing conversations,

If someone wanted to talk to you, they wouldn't of hidden your posts now, would they?
repeat posts, asking things that have been answered or vice versa(which happens a lot anyway but whatever). You said it yourself, it happens a lot now. Nothing would change.
Just don't respond to people that irk you but still read what they say, it's not that hard.
Or... we could get an option to hide user's posts and it would be even easier.
The real reason is that I don't want to be deprived of potential funny arguments.Don't hide people then. If you want to be involved, well maybe that's a reason why somebody would hide your posts in the first place.

You aren't hiding the problem, you're removing it. It is the exact same thing as blocking a user from pm-ing you. Or would you rather have them banned too?

OT: I would not use it myself. Getting into arguments is so much fun.

I'm not talking about me, I have no control over who other people block.

All your responses completely missed where I'm going with this.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

I've seen threads such as this far too often now. Soooooo borrrrrrring.

No thanks. It's just not worth fracturing our community into miniature echo chambers. If it were a temporary censor and if it simply hid the user's posts, that perhaps would work, but I don't particularly feel like accomidating people with weak willpower.

The key thing from my standpoint of non-censor : Us being able look at the situation from another angle makes us better fans. Sometimes when I'm about to go off on someone I read what they said and realize my perspective was wrong. thanks bungie for helping to make me a better person.

I've been in support of this for the longest time now, last nights escapades just reinforces my thoughts. I already use Iggyhopper's Bungie Ignore System as a means of dealing with those like spammers that do nothing but clutter up the forums. However, seeing as how not everyone uses scripts, you have those that will continue to give the spammers attention, reinforcing their behavior. Having the option on the site by default could potentially solve or at least help such issues. I do understand the concern about people ignoring those that they just don't agree with, but really, I've only used it in the cases of spammers and really, really obvious troll attempts, I don't see it being used like that in the majority.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

Achronos was toying around with the idea sometime last year. Of course the option is still on the table; but we won't find out their decision until they roll out the New Hawtness.

Still, I'd like to see Achronos' opinion on it today.

All counter-arguments to evolution are based on a gross misunderstanding of the theory.

I like to read the arguments people make against cool new features. Suggesting that the user is at fault for not "adapting" to annoyances that don't need to be there.
It's silly.

"No, we shouldn't have more features and options because you, the person who is annoyed, should learn to live without said features and options just like the rest of us"

You somehow fail to address the valid points in those arguments and put irrelevant words in those peoples' mouths, nonetheless.

Is there ever going to be a time period on Bungie.net when there aren't jerks? Of course not, it's an internet forum. So why be against the idea of being able to ignore users because it isn't a solution to a problem that doesn't have a solution?

I ignore users as it is, but my experience on this site would be enhanced and improved if this feature were to be implemented.

By hiding I think he means censoring them RATHER than blacklisting them (because normal users don't have the power to blacklist on the mains).

It's not a matter of ignoring, it's a matter of convenience. The ignored aspect is voided because you have to read a users response before interpreting it as annoying or not/incorrect or not etc. If you do therein make that judgement call to ignore a user, then why would you not want a more efficient way to do so?

I knew someone who told me: "You have to right to voice your opinion, but I have the right to not listen to it"

The end result is still the same; their posts are gone (and this is exactly what he wants when he says he doesn't want to see them on this site).

At the very least I would like an option to collapse user's posts (for whatever reason) for an extended period of time. The whole point is to filter content at your own discretion. I think some are over exaggerating how it would create an echo chamber effect.

I've also thought about this idea a bit as well. There is a currently a script that allows you to actually delete full threads from your view. You can remove them in the options (if you accidentally click it), but it's nice if you find a repeat or spam thread. Just go in the thread, report who you need too, then delete it from your view.

....and the best part is, the users that made the thread or who you reported don't even know you did it. They don't need to know.

More often there are repeat topics on these boards and to any regular they become quite the eyesore. That's what this feature is about anyways. Just shooting ideas out there.
