In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

What do you think a blacklist is?

By hiding the problem and not doing anything about it, they are still going to act like jerks. This hide feature is just ignoring the problem.

Atleast when people get banned for something, they have to think about their actions. BY just saying lets block them, we are saying it is okay to act like a jerk/be annoying and they won't be punished for it.

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

Pehaps if they were hidden like a reported user. By this I mean to say it would be nice to be able to see the posts if I so chose.

Just interjecting here, for the most part when I block users via scripts, I do it to spammers such as john cena. Do you think users like that care about being banned and losing an account? The answer is no, they just want to get a rise out of others and then will move on to the next account. I would go as far as saying that denying them the attention they crave by blocking them is a far greater punishment then being banned.

The thing about spammers and most users is that you could just ignore their posts and not click their links.

By blocking them, you are helping yourself. But by them getting banned, everyone is benefiting.

Ignoring a problem does not get it fixed, it only makes it worse.

No, I really don't think I should be trying to appease the jerks.

Hiding the problem does not solve the problem.
And banning is a solution?

Nah.

Learning to ignore certain people is better.

The thing is that it does become a hassle whenever almost the whole page has been covered with "John Cena", making it a chore to scroll through the thread looking for actual discussion.

By blocking them, you are helping yourself. But by them getting banned, everyone is benefiting. If everyone has blocking privileges, everyone would be able to remove it from their sight, benefiting everyone.

Ignoring a problem does not get it fixed, it only makes it worse. I disagree, by giving them the attention they crave, their behavior is being reinforced, not punished. Mods aren't omnipresent, they can't clear everything up right as it happens. There are times when a spammer can continue on for hours, making other users upset. If blocking abilities were integrated into the site, spammers would no longer be able to get the attention they crave because they could be blocked by a simple click of a button. Without the attention, they have nothing to gain by spamming.

The mods cleaned up last nights antics pretty cleanly, these trolls are only a temporary problem.

This is an idea that's been brought up before, and Achronos, as I recall correctly, is actually looking at the idea. He's got a thing for making every user a moderator for their own Bnet experience. Filter out what you see is bad, see what you think is good, etc. So unless he's changed his mind, this might be something you see in the next site overhaul. Just maybe.

Banning is the solution FOR Spammers, trolls, and degenerates in general. If people are breaking the rules, they need to be held accountable or atleast told to stop.

People who you think are "annoying" or don't care for, okay. Everyone has the power to ignore people they don't care for, I ignore people's posts sometimes if I think it is a bad idea to respond.

For Bungie to make a feature that serves the same purpose for a skill we all have been taught since Kindergarten is a waste of time, resources and is completely unnecessary.

If you "need" this feature because you can't hold back your urges to be a jerk, then you are the problem and you will be held accountable for being a jerk.

Doing something like this will take a lot of work and I'm not sure he would go through with it, this would make the current moderators redundant.

Not really... I'm not computer whiz but I'm pretty sure the process wouldn't be too difficult.

And again, not really. A rule breaking post is still rule breaking and needs to be dealt with. This idea is to customize Bnet to be the way you want it, so you can censor anything you want, rule breaking or not. There is a difference.

When did I ever say I wanted to get rid of every troll on this site?

If people would just report and not respond to trolls, the mods can quickly deal with the situation.

You don't need a feature to ignore a troll or spammer, just some common sense.

But why should we give people this "tool".

It sounds like we are trying to help people who break the rules have an easier time.

Look, there is NO REASON why people can;t just ignore certain users post. It baffles me this is a problem for people on here. If some users can't handle it and decide to be a jerk, then I hope they get the appropriate punishments and maybe learn to act nicer towards fellow users.

Because people are idiots. They have to respond to every little fracking thing and it just taints this place like a poison. Ken, are you sure you're not just against this because there's a script that lets people block you?

Well it sounds like then (from what you say) that we are giving into people's bad habits.

I think if people want to act like little kids, they should be treated that way. If people can't stop making snarky comments because they don't care for another member of the septagon army, I don't want them here, period. I don't come here for people to be jerks.

I think if mods would hold people more accountable for what they say, there would be a lot less problems. This script is a joke and keeps letting this bad and immature attitude continue to grow.

Ken, did it ever occur to you that there are plenty of kids on this forum? What do you suggest moderators do? Stay on this site 24/7/365? Having the ability to collapse mass spam posts at will is invaluable. Last night proved the need for it. Who wants to go through a decent thread and stare at a wall of shat? Ninjas aren't always on....hence self moderation is the next step.

Well, it is a good way of dealing with it at the moment, I still do believe that integrating the option with the site would be the best course of action.

On a related note, a spammer is online. I feel that this is a good time to show why ignore options would be a good benefit to the site.
