There's a script for this.

Posted by: jmh9072
This feature exists as a Greasemonkey script by Iggyhopper.

No point arguing about something you already can do.
Always with the scripts....
Well, it is a good way of dealing with it at the moment, I still do believe that integrating the option with the site would be the best course of action.

On a related note, a spammer is online. I feel that this is a good time to show why ignore options would be a good benefit to the site.
Is that the script in action? And I'm adding this to the OP.
That it is, probably one of the most useful scripts I use as well, really saves up the inconvenience of having to scroll past all that crap.

Posted by: CHUD CHUFFER1Alright, I'm sold on the script but I ain't giving up. Not everyone here will be willing to install a script...I still say the site needs this as permanent feature...

By hiding the problem and not doing anything about it, they are still going to act like jerks. This hide feature is just ignoring the problem.

Atleast when people get banned for something, they have to think about their actions. BY just saying lets block them, we are saying it is okay to act like a jerk/be annoying and they won't be punished for it.

You're talking as if we have complete control over blacklisting people, we don't; we're only limited to reporting which is already underused for several reasons. Moderators make the call to ban a user, so unless they'd use said feature (which they wouldn't), then there'd be no difference in the amount of people having to think about there actions (which would rarely happen because A: There's no positiveincentive to follow the rules, and B: The ease of circumventing a ban).

Until such a time where people can learn to ignore by using the power of their mind blah, blah, blah (which will never happen), it's better than standing around twiddling our thumbs assuming we can all change to this utopic view of not taking an annoying poster/spammer to heart.

I agree completely, what people don't seem to understand about people like spammers is that they keep going because they get attention from it, as such, their behavior is being reinforced. You give everyone here ignore options, they will stop giving attention to spammers, giving them no reason to continue on. A script can only go so far, seeing as how it is Firefox only, other browser users can't use it. Having the option here by default would be best.

Indeed. I'm not going to install the script on this machine because frankly it's slow enough.

Because it's easy to ignore a post that takes up a huge chunk of a page right?

I don't understand the point of this. Based on your picture, it looks like you already have a script that allows you to do just that. Clearly, this shows that you are in favor of such an idea. And since this idea already exists, I don't see the point in this thread.

Now, if you wanted this "hard-coded" into the website? That's an entirely different matter.

Not my image...borrowed it. And yes I would love to have this function a very real part of this site.

A script should not be a replacement for a much more effective and efficient function the site could offer itself.

Posted by: dazarobboYou're familiar with programming no? How easy would it be to integrate a feature such as this?

  • 07.30.2012 2:31 AM PDT

I think it's a good idea. I don't understand why so many are against some small change.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

That is like saying you know people are breaking the law but because it is not in plain sight you are still letting it happen.

The fact is this does not deal with the problem, it ignores it.

If a dude is being a jerk so much where almost everyone ignores their posts, something is very wrong and the mods haven't been informed or simply don't want to deal with it.
