Private forums are a wonderful thing, but they can sometimes be a pain to manage if you're using them for administrative work or brainstorming. The website I work for has three different levels of forums: One for everyone, one for staff, and one solely for administrators.
It helps to separate the inputs from different levels of management, which would be especially useful in groups that do a lot of planning but also have a large public following. The Community Carnage group comes to mind. The planners would have a place to organize their information without having extraneous input from regular members unless they wanted it.
It's a great system, and seeing something like that available in Bnet groups (which will hopefully have an even greater focus after the site update) would be a helpful asset.
