Stop complaining. you only made one good point and people would still use it the wrong way.

No one cares about cursing.

your opinion is not shared by everyone on bnet.

Some human body parts are blocked, so we can't discuss anything about anatomy.

agreed, but people will still use all of those word in the wrong way.

Some words are blocked for no reason.

and you really need to use those few words?

Most mods don't even ban people who bypass it. And when they do, it's for a stupid reason.

changes nothing.

I'm confused. You asked for proof that someone could come up with a different way of expressing what they feel, or a different word in the place of a curse word.
Well no, I wanted the proof for the use of cursing as an indication of low intelligence and vocabulary.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

I don't feel like looking for any proof but I've seen people ignorantly curse in an excessive manner not making any sense, purposely of course.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

Perhaps the statement was originally created too generalized then. I didn't realize I'd have to cover all my bases when I wrote up that first post.

I believe that you would be better off not cursing, because it is better, and more indicative of a higher intellect when you use a broad vocabulary. Of course, to assume that there is any correlation between the usage of curse words and a low IQ would be absurd.

But when one is using a forum, such as this, there are more times than not that arguments arise. When such moments come forth, both sides are almost always going to be disputing over their differing opinions.

In such a case, a strong opinion is often backed by a logical thought process, that of which is derived from an intelligent individual. If that were the case, then they could further this understanding, that they are in fact an intelligent person, by circumventing the need to use vulgar words.

The reason why my first post was so direct is inpart due to the fact that I can't always be bothered to be absolutely and completely politically correct, as well as this thorough. You'll forgive me if I offended you.

Sure. Except a spade is a spade, and racooon can be a mong sometimes. I could pretty it up and expand, but it sums it up nicely and neatly. When he talks about sports racooooon is a mong. Various words that are filtered serve as excellent intensifiers of statements, serving as a simple, accurate and concise method to more clearly convey the felling behind a statement. Rac is a mong vs rac is lacking in physical and cerebal ability.

This place would melt if there was no profanity filter, and if you can't get your point over without having to swear then maybe you should really think about what you re trying to say first.

To stop flame wars and profanity from ruling the place? You forget that this is the website of a legitimate business. It'd be pretty stupid and would probably make Bungie look bad if they had people using vulgar language and swearing at each other.

Everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion.

I'm part of the Bungie.net Minecraft group/server called SeptaCrafters
We're a Bungie.net group that goes to our very own Bungie server. Most players are from the Halo community either off Bungie itself or through word to Halo friends.

I've never needed to bypass or even use the filter in my Bungie time.

The mere fact that people must stoop to the level of cursing in an attempt to hurt people is silly.

  • 07.30.2012 7:16 AM PDT

There's a boundary for cursing and sadly the Community always crosses it.

I don't think Bungie would like fragmented sentences that contain a curse word every other word.

EX:
Do bleeps have bleeping cereal bleepers, can't bleeping tell bleep what bleep I bleep.

See it makes no sense.

The profanity filter isn't there to protect you.

The profanity filter is there because we don't care to see whatever string of expletives some of you string together and call "a coherent thought".

Very few things can be expressed with profanity that can't also be expressed better with proper language if you think about it properly.

Anybody can string a few bad words together, but not everyone can tell a good mom joke.

Posted by: Achronos
Or, you could learn to talk without cursing at every opportunity. Far be it for me to suggest that conversation actually happen here without listening to constant profanity of people with nothing better to say. And for the record, the M-rating is for the game, not the website. You guys are generally anything but mature.

Bungie controls everything. You have no rights. Play nice.

Posted by: jtforums
Bungie... I can't say -blam!-. Yes, that is actually an sh with a * and then a t. I typed it like that. Yet you sell shirts that contain exactly that on it.

Bungie, fix your -blam!-. This is a mature rated community.

Posted by: Achronos
Because I said so. You are free to go elsewhere if you don't like it. Bungie is not providing you a forum to spew profanity on, we provide it for you to talk about Bungie games and talk with the Bungie community.

I'm perfectly okay with you looking like an illiterate moron if you can't think of a way to express your ideas without profanity. :)

Posted by: jtforums

I can't say -blam!-.

What if I am talking about a -blam!- person?

I can't say -blam!--blam!- either!

I have to say "ghey" and "-blam!- se xual"

The word "-blam!-" being blocked? Why can we say "sex" then?

Posted by: Achronos
More to the point, most people here are not capable of using those words in a way that isn't inappropriate. Much like the name of a fascist party in Germany. There are plenty of places on the Internet to discuss such things. This is not one of them. We aren't trying to be all things to all people.

Posted by: True Underdog
Posted by: OdhananNot to sound like an illiterate moron or anything, but this word , or that word , for that matter, actually are not "profanity", and really shouldn't be considered as such, IMO. I think the filter is a bit too draconian at times, and censures words which actually would be useful in some conversations.

Not that I claim to have rights or anything. Just my point of view on the matter. I know the filters are set with the lowest common denominator in mind, and sometimes, it actually sucks for those of us who would like to use these words in non-inflamatory, appropriate conversations, given context.

Often times, when discussed in the appropriate context, the thread itself probably doesn't belong in the mains in the first place and should be discussed in The Black Chapter or any other private group you feel like posting about it in.

I agree with you, to an extent, but them's the breaks.

What do you gain from swearing on a forum?
I agree with this, and a very clear and intelligent theory I have for life.

I honestly have no problem with cursing, it is just a part of life for people to curse. But my one thing about it is simple. If you're cursing, then you must not be smart enough to have a larger vocabulary.

What a dumb and needlessly self-righteous statement.

I'm not saying that we should curse all the time. But saying that cursing is dine because of low intelligence? Come on. I know you're smarter than that.

Actually, the profanity filter has its place, and people do care about swearing. Achronos himself has stated in the past that the one the site uses is outdated, and some of those words will most likely be unfiltered later when we get the site update. But nonetheless, this is a place for civil conversation and discussion, therefore people don't need to drop swear words in every other sentence.

I for one agree with the filter and believe it should stay in place.
