"I can't sing or dance, but I can make romance!!!"

After much thought I have came up w/ what I believe could be the coolest gametype ever to be in a Halo game(sorry Race fans, both of you).

It could be called "TEAM BATTLE," or "TEAM OBJECTIVE."

Basically the idea itself is quite simple & easy to understand.
There would be two teams. On one side you have the Spartans, & on the other you have the Elites (or vice versa).

The gametype would be composed of 2 Rounds (each round lasting between 15-20 mins).
This Gametype would have it's very own maps (Think of the maps size being around that of the 2nd lvl in Halo 1 before you actually see your fellow marines). Max # of players could be 8-12 or maybe even 16.

Depending on the map you are playing on the objectives will differ from each map.
Ex: The mission for one map could be for the Spartans to blow up a Covie weapon cache, then release a squad of marines/ODSTs to be evacuated via a A.I. controlled Pelican. Then they would have to gain entry to a fortified-yet destroyed building controlled by the Elites.
The round would end via completion of all three objectives(Spartans win) or win the clock hits zero(Elites win b/c they held off the attackers).

Depending on the map the Spartans may be the attackers or the Elites could be the ones on the offensive. A scenario for the Elites could be to take over a marine held warehouse full of long or short ranged weapons. Once the Elites (if they do) take control of the warehouse (Elites would have to control the zone inside the warehouse for 2 mins to gain control) they would then have access to guns better suited for there next objective. Then the Elites would have to make their way across a ruined street in order to call for a scarab ( A Scarab would then come into view above & blast a hole(s) into a USMC Garage). Their last objective would then be unlocked & available to pursue. The last objective would be to place a bomb into the previously mentioned USMC garage. The Elites could go into the garage the most obvious way (the hole created by the scarab attack, or hop into a wraith(s) to blow more ways in (these places/areas would have objective points so the wraith driver would know where to shoot).
The Elites would also have access to a Rocket Launcher to help the Wraith(s).
The Spartans however would be no push-overs. A sniper would be available to them, along w/Frags nades. Once in the base the Elites would have to arm the bomb & then defend it for a set amount of time(maybe 2-3 mins). As mentioned above The round would end via completion of all three objectives(Elites win) or win the clock hits zero(Spartans win b/c they held off the attackers).

At launch (when H3 comes out) there could be Four of these maps (Two that places Spartans attacking, & two that has Elites attacking). More could be added via DLC.
This Gametype would also have it's very own playlist in matchmaking. The map layouts & scenarios are almost limitless. This Gametype would blend everthing that is good from both Campaign & MP into one. The player would have Campaign-like objectives & could also communicate w/ other players as found in MP. More than any other Gametype this one would place a huge emphasis on teamwork.

Please tell me what you think about this new Gametype & feel free to add your two-cents worth. Hopefully someone w/ stroke will see this & get it implemented into Halo 3, so all of you & myself can get to experience this Gametype firsthand(Unless you have no hands, then of course you can always watch, or learn to game w/ your feet. Man, I hope you feet).

Let's keep this post alive, post your own scenarios even if it is all in vain. I'm interested in seeing what this community of ours can come up with.-Peace, I'm outters.

i hate u jk actually this might be the best idea of a gametype ive heard so far, it made me really actually want to play it because how real it sounds , u have a good idea here a thumbs up to u from me

Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts, absolutely.

I like your idea. I think it has some good logic in it.

Here's some food for thought:

It an addition to your idea. Instead of there being one team of Spartans and one team of Elites (and there still could be a team of Spartans or Elites, it doesn't really matter), there would be, like you said, an attacking team, and a defensive team. There would be two HUGE (when i say HUGE, I mean Containment base x 3) bases, with an armory, vehicle bay, maybe a dock if they decide to put in boats, and basically one team tries to break the other team's defenses, and they try to take over the other team's base, or completely destroy it. These maps could either be in the jungle, tundra, islands as I mentioned, or other things. These maps could also be used for the CTF gametype, or a territories gametype, or even an assault gametype.

But again, I think your idea is brilliant.

Thanks so much for your ideas & support. Not a single soul that I have told this too has disagreed w/ me. Let's keep this up, hopefully more people will come across it & posts there ideas, support, or even there own scenarios for the Gametype.
I would love to see this Gametype come to life, but I'm saving my excitement until I actually play H3. When H2 came out I was hoping it would have a Gametype like the one above.

Anyone who ends up on the "Elite team" would either quit or lose.

Sorry for the double post, but I got to thinking. This mode seems like it would have a CO-OP mode feel to it. Only instead of all the human players on one team fighting against A.I. they would be fighting other Human Players, thus adding more team work, & strategy. Your opponents would then be able to outplay, outsmart, & form new strategies on the fly.
If Halo 3 had something like this mode my pants might become moist w/ excitement.

i think it sounds like a good idea.
Make actual missions instead of dumb objectives like capturing a useless flag or arming a bomb that doesnt even destroy anything except people.

Well see, nobody would quit due to being an elite b/c both teams would have a turn at being spartans & elites. BTW if people were to play this mode then it would be by choice anyways, so they would know what they were in for. It's a 2 round based game. Each team plays as each side once.

Right, of course. When I was trying to describe the mode it would in fact have mission scenarios. The bombing of an base ect would cause a reaction, thus creating a new objective. Ex: Capturing & holding a base for 3 mins would allow your team to call in a scarab. The Scarab would then blow/shoot a hole through the Human base. Now the base would be open for attack & would show up as both teams NEW objective. The Spartans would then Spawn in or around the base & defend it, while the Elites try to gain access to it. Thanks to the Halo 2 engine thats being used in H3, objects can be completly destroyed. So imagine the choices. Go through the whole hole created by the Scarab, or blast new ways into the base for your teammates via Wraith tanks. Once inside the base the bomb could then be armed & palnted. The Spartans would then have 3-5 mins to try & disarm it. The roles would then be changed. Instead of the Spartans defending, they would then have to go on the offensive or risk losing.(Base blows up.)

Halo's a hell of a drug.

I think objective based games would be great. I know they have capture the flag and all, but something with a real objective, like a rescue mission. maybe even have it so that some of the players need to be rescued and given weapons and make it back to the base without dying.

you should try to give this idea to bungie becase its SO good :)

Hey thanks again for the support. I really wish this could be in H3. I know this is a truly feasible, & wonderful idea. Why? Well, b/c I feel it in my loins. Seriously, though I love this idea, & it seems that all of you & I, the fans agree.

The following does not have to be included into the mode, but would be a nice touch.
Before the game actually started, players would get a quick 5-10 sec cutscene showing the attacking team falling & hitting the ground in their drop pods. If the attackers are successful at lets say, blowing up a base at the end, all the players would be treated to another quick 5-10 sec cutscene of the base blowing up, & the annoucer saying Mission Accomplished, or Mission Failed, depending on which team you were on.

It would give the mode that CO-OP/Campaign feel, & reward the player(s) for accomplishing their goals. If your on the losing team however, sure the cutscene looked nice, but you lost, thus making you want to do better next time.

Maybe, there could be two cutscenes. One would be the mentioned above, The other could show a cutscene of the Elites retreating if they lost, or the Spartans calling in for E-vac if they lost. So basically there would be 3 possible cutscenes per map/level. One that show the Attacking team dropping into their insertion point, & then there would be a cutscenes for the winners & the Losers. If the attacking team won both teams would watch the base ect blow up. If the Defending team won then both teams would see the losing team retreat or call for help, thus showing the attacking team in defeat.

The above would be the icing on the cake to a superb gametype. However some people like myself are not much on icing, so maybe that was a bad analogy. How about you? Like the cutscene idea? Dislike it? I'm on the fence, like I said it would be a nice touch, but doesn't absolutely have to be a feature.

Best... Idea... Ever... I love the idea of blending MP with Campaign, it's the best of both worlds. Good thinking I completely agree with you. Halo 3 needs to introduce a more tatical and strategy side to it's already fast-paced shoot-em up. With this gametype it would definately attract more fans and keep the same ones. AWESOME IDEA. Although I'm not sure if it would be entirely possible, but I guess with the new 360 it could be easilly possible.

EDIT: oh about the cutscene idea: I think it would pretty cool, it would "involve" the player more i think.

"If you're not remembered, you never existed"

Halo: Reach>Halo: Combat Evolved>Halo 3> Halo 3: ODST>Halo 2

this is a very original Idea, I have not heard an Idea like this before. Very nice thoughts. I also like the whole blending of multiplayer and single-player. I think it would be even better (if they were able to do this) if they blended story in there as well. So it wasn't just a pointless multiplayer game. Maybe a different cutscene for each team that won? Or something (just thoughts). It doesn't even really have to be story related. I think the idea overall is AWESOME. It would just be even better if they could somehow work the awesome story that they have made for these games into multiplayer. But the whole cutscene Idea....here is an example of what I mean. For the weapons cache level you were talking about....if the spartans fend off the elites, after the game is over, it would show a cutscene of each player (work the player's armor settings and stuff into the scenes) shooting elites and picking off stragglers. and then one of them says "well done" or something, and then that cutscene is over. And if the elites win, show a cutscene of the elites invading into the building and show them shooting down spartans and have one like run up and bite a spartan in the neck from behind and then have the lead elite say something like "the prophets will reward us well tonight brothers" or something. haha, that would be totally awesome. (just my 2 cents though). Anyways, great thread! Awesome ideas. later

Nick

EDIT*** I just now read the other posts above and saw that other people posted about cutscenes. Sorry. (7:07pm)

If the events could be somehow randomized in what order they occurred that would take away from the eventual redundancy of playing on only 2 maps

To avoid redundancy Bungie could keep making new maps and objectives for this gametype that could be downloadable through Live.

Awesome idea by the way.

Nice ideas people. I agree that only two maps would get a little old pretty fast. In one of my previous posts I mentioned that there would be at least 4 of these maps when Halo 3 launches, & more could be added via downloadable content. Also with the destructable enviroments & objectives, one game would never be the same. Example: If your playing against other skilled players, or even slightly better players than yourself, your team may be stuck on the maps first objective for most of that round. Then if you do finally complete the 1st objective then your team will have have less time to work with, thus adding to the suspense & causing everyone to become frantic w/ urgency. I have more ideas for maps & their objectives. Like one map could be on a space station, or on another Halo. One of the objective could be that the spartans must pilot Four Pelicans across a canyon or ocean. The elites on the otherhand would pilot banshees & try to shoot down the pelicans. The pelicans however would have machine turrets. The more pelicans that survive the better off the spartans would be for their next objective. Example: On one of the pelicans holds rockets, the other sniper rifles, & another could be carrying a Warthog. Lose the Pelican w/ the Hog, then you gotta go on foot to your next objective<bummer>

The chase would last 3 mins in game.

What do you guys thinks. Add the next objective if you like or create your own.
BTW the map would resemble the silent Chartographer lvl, & would feature thick jungles. I gotta go for a bit. Be back in about 10 mins. Keep postin'-peace
