Amazing idea. I really hope this is implemented into Halo 3. You should definately send an e-mail to Bungie with a general sketch of your idea and a link to this thread. I really like the idea of how well you do in one objective affects your next ones. Very cool.

A few suggestions-

-Have the spawns close to the action, but not too close. If they are only 10 steps away, there is almost no point in killing them. They have to be far enough away so that the team that killed them can advance, but not so far away as to warrant more than 20-25 seconds walk.

-Map size- I agree with about 2x Containment.

Great idea, man.

Thanks for all of your replies. Doc & several others made a lot of good points. I'm right there w/ you people. I would love to see this idea make it's way into Halo 3. I'm hoping someone w/ stroke comes along & reads this thread too.

In the Weekly Update Frankie mentioned that the playtesters were playing a new Gametype. Could it be like the one in this thread??? Probably...not, but it would be a great day indeed if it was. I'm thinking it's not. So with that said, what could this new Gametype in Halo 3 be??? Anyways, lets all join up & keep this thread alive people. Only good things can come from us doing so. If anybody else has any suggestions, ideas, or their own scenarios please post em'. Thanks for all of your support BTW.

Subject: Spanking New Gametype Idea For Halo 3. (A must read for any Halo fan.)

An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.

Posted by: Choad Master 117
Right, of course. When I was trying to describe the mode it would in fact have mission scenarios. The bombing of an base ect would cause a reaction, thus creating a new objective. Ex: Capturing & holding a base for 3 mins would allow your team to call in a scarab. The Scarab would then blow/shoot a hole through the Human base. Now the base would be open for attack & would show up as both teams NEW objective. The Spartans would then Spawn in or around the base & defend it, while the Elites try to gain access to it. Thanks to the Halo 2 engine thats being used in H3, objects can be completly destroyed. So imagine the choices. Go through the whole hole created by the Scarab, or blast new ways into the base for your teammates via Wraith tanks. Once inside the base the bomb could then be armed & palnted. The Spartans would then have 3-5 mins to try & disarm it. The roles would then be changed. Instead of the Spartans defending, they would then have to go on the offensive or risk losing.(Base blows up.)

That's sounds incredibly boring and uninspiring! :p

Things to consider:

Bungie kept their matches relatively short in Halo 2. In your example above, you have a neutral bomb game (assault, sorry), in which you need three to five minutes to start this new objective.. Just to gain access and plant the bomb. So, what would be the point of even playing if you had 6 minutes left, and you just gained access to the bomb and wanted to try and create a run to score? Would the gamer(s) just say "-blam!- it! There's not enought time left to score!" ..???

Also, in regards to destructible enviornments.. Assuming they even add in destructible enviornments - Who wants their base to be destroyed? Where the -blam!- would you spawn? Out in the open? Anyways.. How easy would it be to gain access to this base? It would have to be balanced, or else gamers would just forgo one for the other.. What's the point in going for the scarab if it's a waste of time, and vice versa?

Also, who is going to want to sit there and spend three to five minutes disarming the bomb? Or arming the bomb? If I'm not mistaken, that part is balanced - It takes relatively the same amount of time to disarm it as to arm it. And that would make it incredibly hard to arm the bomb.

To add to that, half of the spartans time would be spent at their base picking their butts.. While the Elites would spawn at "Flawless Cowboy" - having to make their way all the way back to the other side of the map, would take nearly a minute in itself - I haven't timed it, but if you gave one team the ability to cut off your access to the light bridge, then it would really suck.

I think you've taken some cool ideas from single player, added them into old multiplayer gametypes, but simply made the multiplayer game (in this case bomb type games) longer and more drawn out, but you didn't really add any new excitement, but rather the same scripted events over and over.. Just my opinion.

much love,
Twelve Large

“To say more would spoil be it’s overall its a game that needs to be played.” - Aristotle

Sorry if I didn't hear this already suggested, but I'm lazy and don't wanna read all the posts...

First off, you have my full support on this idea. It's a gr8 one, ppl would play 4ever with this

Next up, here are some ideas:

- Hunter-killer objectives: Playing as the Eliets or Spartans, you have to go around and kill certain players. It's an 8-on-8 game, and the Eliets hunt, then the Spartans, and vice versa until the team completes all objectives of the game. The objectives would be:
- Break into a fortified controled human/covie base and take it over. Grab better weps and move out to kill
- Kill random players as they pop up on your screen without dying. You must kill at least 6, possibly more depending on gametype

- Flood Attack mode!: Playing as the Eliets and Spartans on two different but allied teams (16 players), both teams have certain objectives they must complete to come in control of a GIGANTICALY fortified Flood base of operations (about the size of the map of Coagulation totaly, with underground and aboveground areas *in other words, VERY BIG!!*).But this time, there's a twist. Every person that dies, gets taken over by the Flood. The more ppl who die, the more Flood come and the stronger they get. Objectives:

- (Covie) Break into the Flood base of operations from the side, and send Eliets through (using camoflage, if they're smart) to open the side gate of the base, so that your team-controled vehicles can get through and secure a beachead.

- (Human) Send vehicles (game must register 2 vehicles passing through the gates) into the Flood base until you secure a beachead (like in territories, exept all of ur teamates who die *Human and covie alike* respawn in the closest place to the Flood base you control). Once beachead is secure, await for covie allies, coming to join you after their mission...

- (Covie) Break into the base from the side, and nutralize all Flood hostilities there. Begin on the route up, and secure the upper levels of the base. Then go to the very top and secure two Banshees that are up there. Go down and meet up with your human allies.

- (Human+Covie) Break into the bottom levels of the base and continue capturing beacheads on your way down. Once you are nearly at the bottom room, suit up and go in. There are over 500 Flood forms in this room, AND IT IS GIANT! The Flood have rockets, Turrets, all of them that can are carrying weapons, and they're all after you! Secure the area, capture the last beachead, and you win!

More ideas later....

I like this idea, it blends campaign and multiplayer together. Maybe the elites could have hunters, and grunts A..I.s helping the elites.

Thanks for the posts people, it's appreciated very much. Yeah, depending on the map, you might play offense as a Elite first, then in the 2nd round play defense as a Spartan. Someone mentioned that this Gametype may take too long, & that it's not balanced. Well, I kinda understand your feelings about it taking too long. However, if I'm right I'm thinking that you'll be having so much fun, you will not mind at all (Bungie would have to figure out the objectives, & the round times). As for this mode not being balanced...... all I gotta say is play it first, before you pass judgement. Playing this Gametype though might be hard though due to H3 not being out yet though lol. What I'm trying to say is, sure the Gametype needs to have some balance, yeah. I mean you don't want one team w/ snipers, & the other team w/ shotties right??? Of course not. However, I believe that it would be alright if one team had a leg up over the other team on one of the objectives. Now before you post "No way thats stup1d!!!," think about it. You'll play as both sides, so everyone will have the same advantages/dis-advantages as everyone else, thus making it fair.

Also someone posted that it would take too long to get/walk back to your current objective. I posted earlier that you would respawn close to your teammates. You would not spawn real close, but about 10-15 secs away from your current objective if your on Offense (On Offense your respawn wait time would be 3-5 secs). . If your on Defense you would spawn real close to the objective, but you would have a 10-15 sec respawn time ( The reason for this is b/c it takes the Offensive team 10-15 secs just to reach you, & you would spawn right around your objective). So do not worry about it taking too long to travel from one spot to the next.

Keep the ideas coming people. I & others would love to see what Bungies fans can come up with. Feel free to add to this idea, & come up with your scenarios, objectives, ect.-Peace

Thanks again for the replies.

Yeah I've heard of & played "Castle Wolfinstien," & it's nothing like the idea above. In wolfinstien you choose between types of "classes," & thus choose your own weapon before you spawn. "Stopwatch,"??? Ummm....no. Read my first couple of posts. Seems like your a little confused & your jumping the gun on this one.

Anyways, thanks for the feedback. Let's get this threads' cogs moving again. Post your suggestions, ideas, opinions ect. I'd appreciate it very much. Thank you.

sound cool... but it did remind me of wolf .ET. but thats a cool game, an objective game in halo other than CTF, assault, KoTH, and Territories, that would kick ass

  • 07.10.2006 12:51 PM PDT

I love the idea. I'm primarily play BTB Skirmish, so anything to add to that gametype will get me on board. I would love to see a huge map with a ton of people running around that lasted longer than 10 minutes. And of course something other than CTF or Assault.

Thanks for the replies. I agree, that having more objective gametypes would be a great addition to H3s' MP. You can only have so many Slayer variations. One of the most popular ideas that is Slayer related is the "Zombies/Infection gametype as seen in PDZ. I gotta admit that it would be crazy to witness Flood players trying to infect(kill) others.

Anyways, back on topic. I love CTF, Assualt, KofH, ect just like you people. I also have a deep appreciation for the Campaign in both H1 & H2. Just imagine if MP had a Gametype that got players more involved into their current objectives.

Like Bungie said,"It's fun to play as the Attackers, & then as the Defenders."
This Gametype of mine would let players do just that. Hopefully, as I mentioned before, somebody from Bungie will see & read this thread & make something like this happen for H3. A enviromental artist, anim8ter, anybody w/ some stroke.

BTW I watched the H2 DVD yesterday, & my Halo flame has been renewed. So much so, I'm cleaning out my garage & making it into an official "UNSC LAN CENTER!!!"
It's been months since our last Halo LAN (sadly), & what better way to bring our LAN fests back, than to have a dedicated place for em'.

Hey, let's keep this thread going people. Please post any thoughts/suggestions that you may have for this Gametype. (BTW stay safe & whatever you do, don't die. You got H3 to look forward too, as well, as your next House payment, School, etc).-Peace

Hey, thanks for the love. Nobody plays as an Elite??? Who knew, lol j/k.

Yeah, nobody really plays as an Elite, your right. However, the Gametype would be two rounds. So everyone would play as a Spartan & a Elite at least once. BTW before H2 was released the Red team were Spartans & the Blue team were Elites in all the Gametypes.
In the retail version as we all know, that changed & you can select which one you want.
The reason to force players to certain model is this: It would look very odd to see an Spartan attacking a UNSC base ect.

Let's keep the skull rolling folks.

This sparked an idea. I made a thread for it to get some more direct input on it. But it would also encompass this gametype. Basically a playlist that had all the objective games in it, but a Spartan Team and an Elite Team. Each round you would take turns on different teams. Read my thread for more info.
