ODST.

The level of sophistication in ODST's story is on-par with that of Bioshock (except without Bioshock's compelling and beautifully developed characters).

ODST. Not necessarily the content so much as the approach and execution. Short though it was, it is still my favorite Halo campaign to date.

I love ODSTs story, so I'll say ODST.

Halo multiplayer sucks!

Based on campaigns

Halo 2 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo 3 > Reach/CE tied

Halo 2 and ODST were both brilliantly told. ODST was far more sophisticated and deep, but Halo 2 was also deep and well told and at the end of the day I prefer its storyline, I like the introduction of earth, the prophets, Gravemind, and the Great Schism. However, Sadies Story is really quite brilliant and one of my favourite things about ODST, plus I liked the immersive, realistic enviroment. I will say, however, that the main squad is mainly made up of cliched characters, but I still love them anyways.

Back in '03 after Bungie's E3 demo, I went completely dark on Halo 2's development process until release. When I looked through the instruction manual and saw all the new enemies they'd added and weapons which could be used, my jaw hit the ground.

I don't know why people hated the Gravemind, he was one of the most interesting characters at the time and he has become one of the deepest in the series. I thought Traviss wrote him beautifully in Human Weakness.

I guess people wanted yet another bunch of mindless zombies as opposed to a proper faction with intelligence.

Halo 2. Playing as The Arbiter for the first time was a pleasant shock. Then everyone was butthurt and wanted to play as 117.

I would love for 343 to make another ODST project if they can find any spare time and manpower considering the new trilogy.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

Halo 2.

It put the story of Halo on a much bigger galactic scale. It brought about a Universe and gave us a real glimpse for the first time of the Covenant perspective beyond being just "group of aliens who kill humans" and also to an extent humanity. Having the war hit home, Earth. One that could relate to all Halo players, canon readers and non-canon players alike for the first time. Do keep in mind in 04', Earth invasion wasn't as popular in every game as it is today, especially New York City being today's current trend.

Halo 3:ODST had a great atmosphere though. The direction was almost perfect for what it intended to go for. The dark jazzy ambient night with a rag tag ODST group. But the storyline overall was lacking in my opnion. It had almost 0% contribution to the overall plot to be fair. Sadie's story..meh.

Had it been followed up by something if not anything, maybe it could be consider significant. What's the point of vergil again? In the bigger picture that is. The game leads to some sort of hint Virgil can turn the tide and aid the UNSC forces in some way, but to my understanding, it was left empty.

Besides the fact they dropped in during the H2 Delta Halo segment.I feel the story in ODST is overrated in terms of content. However it's strength lied in the way it's story was presented which was simply superb.

That was the whole point of ODST, to show you how all the significant events in Halo affected people, and not just Spartans prancing around saving the day, but people we can relate to, with a job, a family, a normal living. It's the opposite way around, Sadies Story and ODST didn't have much affect on the main plot, but it was the main plot and events that affected them.

Also, it was vergil who discovered the Ark. This was made clear in both Sadies Story and the epilogue.

Erm okay.. civillians we can all relate to. Yep, no Spartans = real dynamic in storytelling, Yawn. Weak source. It's a bit obvious the main plot affects sadie story and the ODST story.

Vergil didn't discover the Ark, he simply knew where the covenant were heading since 343GS was with the Shadow of Intent, Humanity had no idea what the covenant were looking/doing on Earth. Vergil provided the intel. You could argue that this is significant. But the game doesn't really portray any of this. You have to dig to find this and it doesn't really add anything in storyline progression. If this was "made so clear in the epilogue and sadie story" why did you get it wrong?

As 343 says on The Ark in Halo 3, the Forerunners limited his and each monitor's knowledge on other forerunner installations, so any of the other Monitors and even Virgil obviously couldn't have known exactly where the Ark was.

The main plot affects everything in Halo. You haven't really done anything but state the obvious. You might as well have said: The whole point of ODST is to play as ODSTs. Therefore it's a unique perspective that can't be found in other games.

Well yeah.. no -blam!-.

I guess a lot of that was explained in the books. I havent read all of them.

I thought that it was Vergil, because Dr Endesha said that Vergil found something under the Data Centre, which is the Ark, and it's strongly implied that he told Johnson about it. So he may not have discovered it directly, but he discovered that the covenant were looking for the thing under the Data centre.

ODST was a great game, it's sad how underrated it is and hated just because it wasn't meant to be a full game. Personally, it was a full game.

My second one would be Halo 2

I don't believe it was explained in the books. Me too I haven't read all of them as well.

Vergil had found information that could aid humanity due in part to intel he took from the Superintendent. It's never specifically stated what it is.

The bit in the end as well with the prophet of truth is vague as well. I mean we can assume it's a part of the Ark but we don't actually know that.

The problem with ODST is that there is no follow-up material to confirm or deny what any of this really mean or does in the large part of Halo's plotline besides the whole, this is what happened in Mombasa while the Chief went on another Halo.

Maybe that wasn't the point? But regardless of so, that leaves a weak storyline in my opinion.

I Like Turtles

ODST for sure... The music, weather and lighting (etc.) alone were makings for a spectacular game. But the story and characters draw one in to a deeper understanding of the Halo Universe! BLAM! Therez my two cents.
