I'd like to see it happen, but it probably won't. I just can't see Bungie making huge maps with Pelicans on it. I mean think about it. There will probably only be 1 Pelican for each team. If a Pelican crashes and explodes, or blown out of the sky, players will either have to wait for it to respawn or take the long way and walk, and the problem with big maps is that it's hard to find people unless there is alot of players. Then again if people won't wait for the respawn they could take Warthog or a Ghost etc.

NO!!!! Leave the flying to the pilots. This is a FPS, not Flight Simulator 2007. If the Pelican becomes flyable it will ruin the game. You're meant to fight with a gun, not fly away in a Pelican. What is wrong with people?

One question.

Can you read?

If my memory and my vision serves me right, in my first post, I said something about "be nice, and act mature, and don't flame; make your own theory". Well, not all of that, but still.

Don't flame. Make my question into your own theory. Don't bash me for what I think; it's a free country people.

The Pelican is one of those vehicles that looks like a great idea to incorperate into multiplayer, or even just campaign. But then again, I can't think of any kind of level that would be very much fun if it were the size neccasary to succesfully utilize the pelicans strengths, it is an armored troop transport that we have learned is capable of withstanding a good amount of enemy ground fire, but I've never actually seen anyhting like a wraith tank lighting up a pelican. In fact, so far in the games it has been pretty much impossible to down a Pelican. So how exactly would that work? Six rockets might do the trick? Eight? Any less and it really would make for a dissapointing experience. A flying APC and a few rockets brings it down? Where's the furturistic armor at? I can't really say I'd hate to see a flyable Pelican, but I'm just not seeing the practical uses of it in the game. It's a first person shooter, what fun is it to fly around in a giant chunk of steel that is defenseless? Unless it is equipped with a .50 caliber HMG like the on in Halo 2 (Ya know...the bridge level!). Eh...no point trying to come up with a million good ways to put to bird in the game. Let the guys at Bugnie who get paid to do this sort it out.

I can see where you are coming from, and you do have a point. But I think that they should put them in Halo 3 because of the sheer fact that the Humans have no pilotable flying vehicles, and the only other REAL choice I see for the Human Flying Vehicle is the SkyHawk or whatever that is mentioned in Halo: The Fall of Reach, and part of me doubts that they will put that in there.

So would you rather have a flyable Human vehicle, or none at all?

Yes, you have a point. I completely forgot about the Albatross. My bad.

However, the Longsword might not work, because if you watch the opening cutscene in Halo 1, and the size of it in the last level of Halo 1, you will see that it is HUGE. If they were to be in Halo 3, they would not be the main fight-and-fly vehicle, like the Covenant Banshee; it would be more of a bomber. But I highly doubt that they will put bombers in Halo 3. Good thought, though.

very good point but im also thinking that since througout the war they have reverse enginered lots of covie technology including MC's shields so its possible in halo 3 there would be some new option for the humans, like some kind of mini gyro

Personally, I think it should be, but, then again, I don't know what the general public thinks about this.

Discuss.

Please don't flame me. If you have something to say, say it nicely and in a mature matter.

If the Pelican wasn't flyable, what would the point of it being in the game be? The Pelican is a flying ship, so if it isn't flyable, it's pointless.

You're right, my bad. I just have an extreme dislike of the idea of flying anything bigger than a Banshee in any Halo games.

i think that is is a yes and a no. Yes because i mean come on how cool would it be? Also there is a convenant flying vehicle there has to be a human one. And the no isnt a full no its a make the pelican smaller kind of thing. It would just dominate the whole map if it was normal sized

this would be good in multi player like in capture the flag everybody get in one fly over to the other base and jump out and invade the base that would be sick but u can only use them in the huge maps bigger than the ones that we had in halo 1 and 2

I don't know, maybe in Campaign, IF ANYTHING. Why don't you just let Bunige decide?

I think think it shouldnt be a pelican you can fly, but instead some kind of hovership thats easy to lock ont, doesnt go that fast but it can defend itself a great amount, like it has fireing slots on the side for passengers and one machine gun on the back. Like in hover mode it goes up and down and in flight mode it tilts slightly foward. And it shouldnt be as big as the pelican.

I think ive got a idea! The pelican should be in the game but you shouldnt have to take it down with like 8 rockets. So it could have weak spots that when you use the rocket launcher it would destroy in 3 hits. Also thepelican would be slow and easy to target but people would be able to shoot out the back. Also a wraith or scorpian could take it down in 1 shot.Their woulkd have to be huge maps though. It would be a good vehicle for CTF,Territorys and Assualt.

No! There is no need for it to be in the game!

It's too unbalanced for Multiplayer and in Campaign I don't want to be flying long distances with a crew of Marines.

It's faster than the Banshee, it can hold 8 (?) men, and it's too big for all the current map.

You can fly across Coagulation in about 2 seconds with the Pelican; it's stupid!

There, done. Hopefully you'll read this and think.

  • 06.17.2006 1:16 PM PDT

Flying a pelican would be a good idea yes.( voted yes btw ) but im thinking they are just a bit too big. Sure they can increase the level sizes. Im fine with that. ive always wanted to fly one. but maybe they could make it a bit smaller? smaller that no one will realise by just looking at it, still looks big but isnt as big...... if you get me? Hmmmm. yes anyway. i would like to see them in the game. its nice to see a mature thread. without people screaming at each other

I think it'd be pretty cool if Bungie had a multiplayer map or two that was a big Earth city, where there are some buildings you can go in(for example, a 50 story building, you run up the stairs to the 20th floor and snipe people below you), Pelicans / Phantoms to fly and help out teammates by picking them up or dropping reinforcements...or tanks....everybody loves tanks.

Maybe even have some marines and Covenant AI-controlled running about. I just know that if I could fly a Pelican / Phantom / Longsword, I would use it every game I could. I might even be forced to beat down the person headed for the pilot's seat that's in front of me >.>

A way for the Pelican to work would be the pilot can see the Pelican from a third-person perspective, while the copilot can see things on the inside of the cockpit(sort of like how the Warthog worked in Halo: Combat Evolved). Then there could be the mounted machine gun turret in the back which would be sort of "over-the-shoulder" like turrets in Halo 2 are. And then there'd be all of the passengers sitting there wishing they could fly the thing or man the turret.

Just imagine...Warthog Wars...but with Pelicans and Phantoms. Dropship Wars...crazy.

EDIT: Not really sure if anyone else posted anything like this idea yet...didn't notice all of the posts O_o...I've been wanting to fly a Pelican in a huge Earth city level since I played the Outskirts/ Metropolis levels on Halo 2.

Those of use who've played "Battlefield: Modern Combat" have seen something of how interesting using a Pelican would be. The game supports 12 on 12 multiplayer action with only occasional lag and has some rather large maps. The inclusion of many vehicles scattered about make the entire map easily accessible despite its size.

The most pertinent thing in the game is that you can load up to six people into one helicopter which allowed for some crazy strategies. In one situation we completely loaded a helicopter, flew it over an enemy territory and everyone jumped out save for the pilot. We devastated the two guys below and the helicopter descended to pick us back up and take us to the next territory.

Simply put, there is precedence, it's up to Bungie to see if they want to put their own unique spin on it.

[Edit: for verb/tense disagreement]
