Actually, in the Trailer FAQ, it says that Halo 3 takes place some time after Halo 2- they're not one right after the other, really. It could even be a few months later.

no disrespect dude, but i HIGHLY doubt that

there is no way that in a few months, let alone weeks that this could all be taking place considering:

*a space battle takes place for maybe a few days
*the flood would have already won the war on the other side of the galaxy by now
*those ships wouldnt be in such good shape after a MONTH (or even week) of fighting

trust me......halo 3 is gonna pick up RIGHT where H2 left off.

hey guys here is a idea y dont we say that the books and the games are two different unverses that tell the story of halo but in a different way in each universe. it makes sense in one universe the spartens die and in another one they live which makes a whole different story but they r still in the same halo universe see that how i think of the games and the books and it works

make sense or be quiet

here is an idea try to understand it

It wasn't that difficult.
Apperantly Bungie thinks different.

Huh? How does that even make sense? Do you even know what I typed? I'm not even going to respond to that.

And to sycomunkee- where is this quote? Do they specifically say "There will be no Spartans in Halo 3". Show me and I'll believe it. But beyond that, I'm mainly talking about the inclusion of anything from the books. You are SO opposed to them for some reason, and I'm trying to figure out why- do you people just hate reading that much? You post so passionately and in all caps that the books won't be included... I hate to break it to you, but small elements from the books were already included in Halo 1 and Halo 2, for the hardcore fans. You're going to have to deal with (in some form or antoher) in Halo 3.

They said "The Spartan in the trailer is the Master Chief, no one else"...so he automatically think this means something completely different..
Now you are puting words into my mouth. That is unacceptable. I said apperantly Bungie thinks different because Shishka said that there would be no new characters.

Actually, I just looked and they DONT say that in the FAQ- my bad :) You could be right about that.

See, people? If you're going to say "Bungie said..." Go find it first. I wholeheartedly believed that they said somewhere that the game takes place some time after Halo 2, but it was a misreading I did. Before you start saying stuff that Bungie said, go find it :)

sure me and pwnocchio have been going back and forth but i respect him as an intellectual on the site. he's very bright and thats i continue to put up good arguments to couple with his. but flaming me outright?

thats just NOT COOL alex

alright, alright, i know theres plenty that was introduced in halo 2 that wasnt in halo 1. but halo 2 didnt pick up directly where halo 1 left off. halo 3 is more or less just part two of halo 2.

now there is SO much that bungie needs to get into before halo 3 can be complete. with all this stuff going on, one meager cutscene that explains some half-a_ _ed backstory about spartans that nobody would care for will ruin the game.

seriously. this is CHIEF'S SHOW. its all about him.

You know that with all the extra processing power and the like, and increasing storage space on Disks, we can have upwards of 20 levels in Halo 3. It would be EASY to get in 11 levels as the Chief, 5 as the Arbiter, and 4 playing as other Spartans. EASY. It would add so much more to the Games' story line as well..

What happened in Halo 2 where the Arbiter had as much if not more levels as the Chief did? It wasn't CHIEF"s SHOW in Halo 2, but it can still be his for the most part in Halo 3.

But even then, I just figured the Spartans would be non-playable characters (or only playable in Co-op). To me, adding new non-playable characters won't take away from it being "The Chief's show". That's like saying Sergeant Johnson or Keyes shouldn't be in there, because it will take away from the Chief- obviously, Bungie isn't too concerned with how things are perceived to be, as they made the Arbiter a playable character. They know that it is still the Chief's show, but are going to do what they deem best for the storyline. Whether or not that includes more Spartans is fine by me...

Anywho, this is turning into another Spartans debate... I'd really like to focus more on whether or not some of you have read the books, and why others feel so strongly that they should not or will not be used. That's the point of this thread.

Spartans going for the same objective, or a complimentrary objective, and yo usee some of them in a cutscene and maybe meet up with them (Like how you hardly play side by side with Johnson or Miranda in H2) would definately not take away from the Chief's greatness..

I'm just curious- there are all these threads saying "THERE WONT BE ANY SPARTANS OMG!!!11!!", and I'm just curious as to why people are so offended at the suggestion that there might be more to the Halo story than meets the eye.

Now, I don't think that EVERYTHING from the books is going to pop up- but let's be reasonable- things have popped up from the books before, and they probably will again. Why are people so angry about books that they haven't even read?

Why are peole so oppoesed? Because there to dam stupid to buy or read a book

Take me out of context again and you'll be permanently removed from these forums.

Read what I said. People often complain about the games not lining up perfectly to the books. What they don't realize is that that's now how it works; the books take a back seat to the games where canon is involved. The books are filler to further illustrate the Halo universe for the fans that are interested. Inconsistencies are not the games being inconsistent with the books, but the books being inconsistent with the games, so people should not hop up and down every time they don't see something in the games that was in the books.

multiple spartans.....i dont know. i just dont like the way they were presented. their names are so unthreatneing.....fred? what kind of killing machine is named fred?????? also, it would take away from the impact of the chief. he wouldnt be the one of a kind super soldier anymore.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

Just because Bungie said that the other Spartans arn't gonna be in Halo 3 does not mean there won't be any other Spartans in Halo 3, if you look back over the past year Bungie denied any such project called "Halo 3" was in the works. If Bungie dnies something that could be them lieing just so they don't get the plot twists leaked!

The other surviving Spartans might at least be mentioned by a character in Halo 3. The only characters I see appearing in Halo 3 from the novels are Lord Hood (Remember "Lord Hood" first appeared in "First Strike" and then he was in "Halo 2") and Ackerson.

Since Lord Hood appeared in Halo 2 that would mean we could see other characters from the novels appear in Halo 3!

Think of it this way. Look at what Chief can accomplish by himself. Now imagine if he had a squad of four other Spartans with him. The game would be incredibly easy.

Fleet Admiral harper, The Prophet of Truth, Tartarus, The Arbiter, Brutes, Prophets, the High Council, The Ascendant Justice, Battle Rifles, SMGs, Magnums...here's a large list of things introduced in the Halo novels:

* Tartarus
* The Arbiter
* The Prophet of Truth
* Lord Hood
* Fleet Admiral harper

* The Covenant Flagship; Ascendant Justice

* Covenant A.I.s

* Race: Prophets
* Race: Brutes

* Cortana; going whacky (it's hinted at at the end of H2, and in the H3 trailer)

* Johnson; Escaped Halo's blast

* Battle Rifle
* Brute shot
* SMG
* Magnum
* Archer missile pods
* Orbital MAC cannons

* New feature: Dual Wielding

* Time warping crystal; we experience it's effects in Halo 2.

* Ships; dual core, spinning reactors as seen on the PoA; not mentioned in the game but in the book

* Slipspace; jumping from inside an atmosphere

Point is, things from the books will be implemented, and will not need a huge intro. Look at Tartarus, or the Arbiter, or the Prophets

Common sense can tell us most of how and who they are; a cinematic will explain the rest.

Look at the books, John couldn't take the Unyielding Hierophant over by himself, so he needed more SPARTANs to come with him. They all have different strengths...Linda was Sniping, Grace had their Heavy Weapons, etc. etc.

Who says they need to be together? They could be going for the same objective, or a different one..say, send Linda and Fred and Will to take out a Ship's Shield while you (and maybe Kelly or Johnson) go and plant a nuke in the control room. you wouln't see eachother, but it would remove the need t ogo out of your way for another objective, while keeping you up to date with happenings in Cutscenes.

I know exacly where they were in Halo 2... They were recovering fromthere wounds and resting after the events from "The Fall Of Reach" and "First Strike"!

While the Master Chief at least got decent breaks in between missions at Alpha Base in Halo 1/The Flood the other Spartans had to defend Dr. Hasley on Reach 24/7!

They could be on Coral taking the Forerunner Artifact talked about in the Conversations from the Universe...it could be the power source when the Ark on Earth tries to communicate, it gets to the Coral facility, and gets a boost in power so it can make it all the way to the Halos.

That would be an important thing to protect from the Covenant, no? That could also mean the SPARTAN IIIs are being trained there.

So...everyone with the Halo 2 strategy guide, go through to the back of the book till you reach the "Extras" Section. Look at the two-page picture of the Chief looking out of the Pelican in outerspace in upgraded MJOLNIR armor...Look at the Pelican in the back.

8 Figures are jumping out into Space, but are these regular ODSTs? ODSTs jump in Drop pods. Also, Marines don't wear armor similar to the MJOLNIR that would protect them from entering the Earth's atmosphere...do they?

Here is the image:

http://bungie.com/SlideShow.aspx?Path=/games/Halo2&Slide show=PrintArt&Slide=0

Does anyone recall the number of SPARTANs alive?

1. John
2. Linda
3. Kelly
4. Fred
5. Will
6. Cassandra (From the Halo 2 extra booklet)
7. unnamed, too far to be recalled to the Front Lines
8. unnamed, too far to be recalled to the Front Lines
9. unnamed, too far to be recalled to the Front Lines
10. James, MIA in UNSC controlled space during REACH invasion

That makes 10...Master Chief is in the front, and there are 9 in the back...what do you guys think?
