the halo 2 storyline was good dont get me wrong, but in my opinion it only became truly engaging in the last couple levels where you learn about the fleet going to earth, the elites being betrayed and the flood attacking high charity.
In halo 3 i would like the marines to be more desperate, their chatter in halo 2 was humorous at best. moments when they say "you bugga" when getting shot ruins immersion. also the marines seemed a bit superhuman, in the level outskirts when you crash in the pelican, the marines seem unfazed and unstunned, while you have blurry vision and cant move. a better beginning to that level would have been a cutscene showing the chief lift a beam off of his chest, look at dead marines around him and then lift a large concrete block that covered the exit to the pelican which would free johnson, then the three warthogs you see would drive close to the whole and the marines would have joined you. it would have been a great start to the earth levels.
