ALAN IS A BEAUTIFUL MAN!

After reading how Bungie celebrated Bungie Day, this question popped into my brain. I'd like to know the amount of time it takes to work up through each rank at Bungie (Years, Months, etc...) Does it gradually take longer to work your way up, or is it the same amount of time per rank?

Thanks in advance.

When I grow up, I want to be just like goofenhour.

It's all based on time spent at Bungie. I also believe they spilt the studio into 4 parts, and split them evenly into 4 parts from a descending order from longest to shortest employment. Of course Grizzled being the oldest part, Newbs being the newest part.

Actually from what I hear, there really is a formula used to calculate this. Makes sense that a bunch of software designers would come up with algorithms for everything, if you think about it.

We aren't here to ruin your experience (Well Qbix is).

The employees probably get tied up and tortured for 7 days in a dark room before they get promoted. Makes sense.

Ohh wait, that's with the forum ninjas.
It's probably way worse for the employees.

I try not to think about it. Hurts my little brain.

***it’s not who you are underneath, but what you do that defines you***

This Bungie Crew Rating system is a ranking system made up by the Bungie crew itself. The system has 4 ranks: Newbie, Middle School, Old Skool, and Grizzled Ancients.

Newbie: These guys are people who just joined the Bungie crew. They're at the bottom of the rank system. These guys may not be popular, but at least they're getting Bungie closer to their goal: World Domination.

Middle School: These guys are no longer newbies anymore! They're in the middle of the rank system but still relatively new. These guys are more popular and experienced than Newbies but they still have a long way to go! Once an employee is at this rank, it's not recommended that they quit as they are already a big part of Bungie.

Old Skool: These guys have been here for some time now. They're in the middle of the ranking system but closer to the Grizzled Ancients. As they stay with Bungie their reputation and experience increases. They're almost at the top of that ladder!

Grizzled Ancients: These guys are the oldest of the old and best of the best. They have been with Bungie since day one. Or week one. Or month one. The point is, they're old, and they're grizzled.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

I thought it would be number of years, but a formula does make sense. Like a predecessor to the trust algorithm; I wonder if it's a secret formula for them too. :D

I'm just wondering, do you have a source of information you could link us?

If it's anything similar to the forum rank algorithm, only God (and Achronos) knows when someone will be promoted.

It's a simple matter of time and relativity. You take the staff, sort them by tenure, and split them four ways. Given our rapid expansion, its never been easier to graduate to a higher class.

So that raises a new question. Seeing as you joined about a year (or less) ago, are you considered a nOOb? Or are you excluded from the ranking system?

He'd have instantly stopped and knelt down, one fist on the ground, hoping to be impervious to the officer's attacks. When this would have failed and he's in the back of the police car, he'd blame his predicament on his friends for not being team players.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I always imagined that the Grizzled Ancients were the founding members of Bungie. Reserved for only those that were around since the beginning.
