One does not choose a destiny, his destiny is bestowed, shaped and formed, from the soul.

To lock our own threads. You always see an OP asking for their thread to be locked so why not give the OP the ability to lock their own thread?

Is this a good idea?

We should also be able to ban ourselves.

Im just a guy.

Hmm... It does seem alright, but there should be a different "lock" icon, so someone can't stage a thread, lock it, then say a ninja locked their thread unfairly.

A blue lock symbol?

It could be abused.

I still think the pros outweigh the cons though.

Can you give a good reason why users should be allowed to lock their own thread?

Great minds discuss ideas

Average minds discuss events

Small minds discuss people

It gives people too much power to influence any conversation inside the thread by threat of lock, and you won't get as many of those spontaneous funny moments.

You ask a question, you get the answer and the purpose of the thread is fulfilled.

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

No.

That would be terrible. Threads need to be locked if not following rules or just going way off-topic. Also, the thread will no longer belong to the OP it will belong to the community of that forum.

;)

So the original poster can lock it when he thinks no more discussion can come out of the thread? If no more discussion can come form the thread, then users will stop replying to it. And what if someone has something to add, be it another question, a more detailed answer, or any other piece of information?

That would bring trolling to an all new level....

Just because you posted a thread doesn't entitle you to moderate it.

I've always wanted to own my own thread. I'd feed him, water him, and take him for a walk every day!

Hmm... I always thought of threads more like acres of land rather than something like a pet. The Bungie dream of owning a 100 threads, ideas as far as the eye can see. The ability to till one's mind and grow thoughtful discussion.

I was going to say it was a good idea until I saw it from this perspective. From this angle, it serves no purpose but allowing users to create spam in the form of locked threads.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder at how such a feature could be abused.

All counter-arguments to evolution are based on a gross misunderstanding of the theory.

I thought it was going to end at just "the ability".

Can it be abused? Does banning yourself have an effect on anyone else? That's an interesting thought.

It really is a question of ownership.

I dont think we own the threads just because we started them. They belong to the community and where the community takes it.
