Subject: In the next bungie.net update we should get the ability

My Best Bungie moment: finally beating all the Halo games on solo legendary.
My Worst Bungie moment: not seeing giant stuffie grunts in the Bungie store.

No.

People could lock their threads as soon as they start losing an argument, they don't like the way a discussion is going, they lose interest in the thread, or just to troll people who are having a legitimate conversation.

I remember once reading something posted by a Mod about thread making:

When you post a thread, it is no longer yours to control. You give up all rights to your threads as soon as you hit the submit button. I honestly think this is very true, and it's just a part of forums. You create a discussion, and let the community take over from there.

Members here dont get banned.

They just go missing in action.

Can you give a good reason why users should be allowed to lock their own thread?
I've posted in the wrong forums many times.

Hmm... It does seem alright, but there should be a different "lock" icon, so someone can't stage a thread, lock it, then say a ninja locked their thread unfairly.

it's called an icon called "user-locked"

We should also be able to ban ourselves.

If you'd like, I could create a simple scenario.

Pretend I am a spammer. I realize mods are asleep and I make a spam thread. The thread gains a few pages, then I lock it. It goes well into the third or fourth page of the forum by the time the mod shows up, so he never even notices it.

See what I did? I created a spam thread and caused uproar on the forums, yet got away without a scratch, and could later return and do the same thing once again.

This is only implying that I can't unlock the thread, which the OP never mentioned, thus, I never mentioned in the scenario.

Fact of the matter is... there are cons, like the one I posted above, but like I said, the pros outweigh them, if I must say so myself, significantly.

Lock mobs. A group attacks a forum with flood posts then all at once lock all their threads.
