@spawn031

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

Well, O Brave New World was posted a year ago today.

Bungie wasn't messing around when they said they were going to be dark for a long time. I feel that we're getting towards the end of the darkness. Hopefully with PAX coming up at the end of August, we might have something that hints towards that light at the end of the tunnel. Or maybe we'll actually get a sign of what "soon" actually means. Who knows, only time will tell.

These were the last words left by Urk, shortly after Bungie Day last year. Are we there yet?

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

So, this isn't a goodbye. It isn't The End. Instead, it's the very beginning of a new journey that will stretch the limits of what we are capable of. Ancient engines are now rumbling deep within the heart of our studio, and their energy will power us through the upcoming darkness. Like all dark times ours will be broken first by a single strand of light a tether reaching out to bind us all together again. One day, we will awaken in a wondrous new place and we will remember just what it was that drew us together at the beginning of it all. We will look up to the heavens, and find hope. No, I do not think we are there yet, but we have lasted this long, we can wait longer.

See you starside, oh and tonight on MW3 or whatever we're playing.

The best victories are the ones the other side didn't expect.

Yes Costco. I need a 50lb bag...I mean sack of sugar.

As long as we see some more cryptic messages in the near future, I don't care how long they stay dark.

Seems longer.
Though I personally feel things here died 2 months into Reach.

We've made it so far, the light is getting closer!!!

Great minds discuss ideas

Average minds discuss events

Small minds discuss people

After we went calling random people on Bungie Day, I think they are a bit hesitant on the cryptic clues for now.

It seems a bit longer since then, but hopefully it will end sooner than later.

  • 08.03.2012 9:30 AM PDT

Wow, one year. It honestly doesn't seem that long to me though.

  • 08.03.2012 9:32 AM PDT

The light is getting closer but is still far away.

  • 08.03.2012 9:34 AM PDT

La-hoo, Za-her.

I don't think we'll see anything until 2013.

Which sucks, since the first game is set to ship in 2013. We'll have missed the entire development process. Even after all this time, I still don't know what compelled Bungie to go from being one of the most open studios to one of the darkest.

I don't think we are close to the end of darkness.

Urk's writing still gives me goosebumps. Especially the last paragraph. Very cool.

Wow. It does seem like more than a year has gone by, I do vaguely remember that last paragraph though.

I thought we were dark before the vidoc...?

What a hipster.

This is the first sign of "Are we there yet?". Many car rides have shown we're still a ways away ^_^.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

A year already?!

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

It's been dark here for so long my mind is making imaginary lights to comfort me.
Oh well, my patience will continue.

Doesn't seem like it's been that long

Bye.

They may be dark, but we still shine bright.

Here's a little beam of light for you all:
Destiny has landmarks within the game.

Wait, I was supposed to call someone? Damn. Missed the memo.

A MAN CHOOSES, A SLAVE OBEYS.

This time next year we will know what they are working on, and most likely know when it is coming out if the activsion legal documents are correct. 2013 holiday release.

I don't really understand the purpose of withholding information for such a prolonged period of time. It seems silly.

"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

Reminds me of the release between Halo CE and Halo 2, and Halo 2 to Halo 3. Three years each time. We kind of got spoiled when they started releasing new games every year, (Halo 3, Map Packs, then ODST, then Reach).

It will be exhilarating when Bungie finally comes out of the dark.

Well, if things are in a state of flux, it may make sense to withhold information, rather than give us something that may change.

Is it selfish that I want them to stay dark a little while longer since I'm going on Vacation a bit this August and I definitely don't want to miss the coming of the light?

>_>
