DISCLAIMER: I know that the books and games are on the same timeline that Bungie approves of.

As the mother of the Spartan program (and possibly Miranda Keyes), Dr. Halsey's presence within Halo's story cannot be ignored. She IS a character from the books, but she also represents a very important element in the Halo universe. So, does anyone think that she is likely to return in Halo 3 with Kelly-087 (at the very least)?

Keep in mind:

1. The Master Chief already knows that Fred, Will, and Linda are still alive, but he does not know what happened to Kelly.

2. Dr. Halsey's ideal of trading one life for the sake of many echoes throughout the story.

3. She felt at the end of First Strike that she had to redeem herself for all that she had thought she had done wrong in her life.

4. Most of these story elements could be simply explained in a cutscene.

So the primary question is: What is the likelyhood of her return (if the Ghosts of Coral or any other new books don't kill her off)? And would she die in Halo 3?

Bungie will not introduce characters from the book, simply because not everyone has read them.

The books rock and i think they should and who cares if they have read them thats their fault.

Because she found spartan 117.

You don't know that for certain, and that's not quite the question he asked. If you don't think she is, then say why. Don't speak for Bungie, though.

Personally, while I agree that she is a big character- I don't know how plausible her return might be. She maybe could come in for another book that takes place after Halo 3, or coincides with the events of Halo 3, but I just can't see her returning.

The only way I could see her returning is if she returned between the events of Halo 2 and 3, and she pretty much is just kind of around, and treated like Johnson or Keyes or Lord Hood- they don't go into her background, but she can help to be an integral part of the story still. I've actually wondered once or twice if Halsey might be the stand-in for Cortana since Cortana is MIA. That would actually be a neat little twist.

Yes, since the UNSC is going to possibly go underground, she would be part of the Chief's tactical command center and they would just show her face in a few cutscenes.

They should include her.

She would be the easiest to explain from the books as well. The fact of the matter is that the Chief could use a replacement for Cortana. Who better than the real brain Cortana was based off of (even though Dr. Halsey is in her sixties)?
