"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams
When I entered this thread, I thought we were going to discuss about how groups could literally have a "Status" posted on their front page, similar to facebook or twitter. Reminds me back in the previous version of bungie.net where private groups had a "most popular thread" feature where the name of the thread appeared on the group's homepage, even if it was private.
As for this thread though, I think some of those could work such as "away", "active" etc. I think the idea would be to help other users finding group that suite their desires when they spend time here. Although, I don't think groups should be deleted after X amount of inactivity.
If you're referring to "mods" as "bungie.net administrators" in your OP, then they should have full access to all groups (as they already do because they're administrators). If you're talking about the public "forum ninjas", they don't have moderating powers in private groups unless they're given them by group administrators.
When you create a group, you agree to follow the rules and regulations of the entire website. If you have to "hide" your group from the moderators/admins, then there is something fishy going on. If you want it so private, don't have it on bungie.net, go somewhere else and just invite your friends with you.
