Since the grunts have Methane breathing apparatus, and we all know methane is flamable, should their packs make a small explosion or a fire comming out of the hole you put in it?

Not explode as in big ball of fire, just as in pressure wise like a ballon popping or a monitor being dropped from a high altitude

lol thats a good idea, it would also make for some serious grunt barbecue scenarios if they included the flame thrower

Ya, the 360 can handle it.. plus they did explode in the books.
That would be sweet, but it might be a problem because of splash radius and stuff like that. Would they just explode in to a purple (orange?) mist of blood?

It would make complete sense for it to explode. Even though it is armor, humans do carry armor piercing rounds. Maybe even a large enough explosion to knock out some of the elites shielding?

There's also a HUGE difference between flammable and explosive. Methane, which is pretty much a "natural gas" (and is indeed the key component) isn't explosive without the presence of an oxidizer. Ie. The most you'll get is a small jet of flame coming out of the hole you've put in the Grunt's methane tank.

Set aside the fact it's not explosive, even if it was you are also assuming that an advanced, space capable, race can't come up with a gellied version of methane or a multi-chambered container that would prevent such an explosion from taking place.

he's right, besides it's a hell of a lot more fun just squeezing rounds into grunts and watching the blood come out, then having each and every single grunt explode... That would be -blam!-... Maybe if you snipe a grunt in a certain way on the tank it would blow up so that way damage would be done on surronding covies, so your not wasteing an untire shot on a grunt.

Exccelent Idea EMAIL THIS TO BUNGIE PLEASE

I talked to my daad about this once awhile
ago and you reminded me of that.

If you shoot a whole in there tanks they should
eitehr blow up ( which would be awesome )
Or get propelled around the map from the force of the gas
Which would be even better

well, if not explode, propelled around the area, i mean if they're like human tanks so to say, they would be compressed with methane, so just like shooting a large air tank it should in theory explode from the all the air trying to get out at once or shoot like a rocket

Orange? Close enough, I guess, it's blue.

Not true. I once witnessed a physics demonstration where three tanks were set up in an armoured room. The three tanks were filled with Gasoline, Propane (Natural Gas), and Hydrogen.

The only one that exploded was the gasoline. That's why natural gas is used throughout modern society, it's much much safer.

People shouldn't take the Halo books as completely serious. The author doesn't underestand physics. He also includes "Flash Freezing" when someone is exposed to the vacuum of space. Space is NOT cold. Space is not hot. Vacuum is the perfect insulator, that's why it's used in your thermos. Most of NASA's spacesuits are given over to cooling down the astronaut, not heating him.

Or perhaps you could pierce the methane tank and watch the Grunt ignite while running around helplessly.

as some other people have stated in other posts, this is a science fiction game, some of the stuff in the game is just not probable as it is, just go with the flow here, give some ideas, it would just be fun to see what would happen, stop getting so technical about it.

Good idea, it would make the game a lot more funny. I would like to see some sort of propelling explosion

eg.- You shoot the methane tank, which makes a small but forceful explosion that rockets the grunt across the room (with a grunty scream for extra hilarity). The corpse wouldn't be blown to pieces, that way some of you who like to shoot corpses for blue blood could do that.

It would be a lot like those jetpack dudes in Starwars Republic Commando.

If Bungie did do this, i would suggest they make it a rare event, it wouldn't be fun if this happened to all or even just half of the grunts. maybe like one in every 20 or so... it should require a well placed shot to set off the explosion.

ok, first off, methane only explodes hen mixed with air in a certain quanity. Just shooting open a methane tank wont cuase an explosion there is too much methane and not ebough air. Now an explosion do to the pressure leaving the tank would normally work, but the armor on the grunts is most likely strong enough to not pull apartt do to gas leaving the tank. the only other way methane can explode is through a high heat source. now a normal bullet is not hot enough to cuase an explosion, so the only way i could see an explosion occuring in the halo universe is if a plasma bolt somehow got inside the methan tank :|
so thats not really going to happen. although an explosion is highly unlikely i could see the grunt fly around the room do the the pressure of the gas leaving the tank. so i guess shoot the methan tank and a grunt could logically fly. oh and secondly dont you think the covenant would realize they are walking next to creatures wiht unstable gas on their backs? i mean the covenant probly did something about this problem already :|

Yeah, the last thing I'd want to see are Grunt suicide bombers... then again................ seeing a grunt running at you with a lit plasma grenade in both hands.... Dayumn...

Now explosion doesnt just mean BIG BALL OF FIRE. Im talking pressure wise here.

and like i said above^ the grunts armor is most likely too dense to be torn apart by a gas leak.

Why would you use highly pressurized methane? Why not jellied methane? Additionally, it's not likely they breathe pure methane. That's like saying that humans breathe pure oxygen. (Which is much more dangerous then pure Methane)

No, you know on Headlong, there's those tanks in the room with the shotgun, by the sniper(human), and if you shoot the cap, they go flying? Well, put in the same idea, land a shot off on a certain part, and they go flying around! It'd be hilarious.

they breath pure methane, its proven in the books.

So, it'd still be cool to have the same effect, It's compressed air, either way.
