I was thhinking wht new stuff could they add to the chief's HUD? maybe you should be able to customise the crosshair? or even the colour of the HUD? What happened to the use of NAV points form halo 1? they aren't used as much in halo 2, i lvoed the way cortana would give me a nav point and i could skip battles just zooming ahead towards the objective.

Along with the waypoints what about the health packs and health meter?

Nah, I don't like the health meter. I like the idea of a HUD-color-customizer though.

yer like in eerie dark places i'd like to change the hud to a green so it seems like nightvision, when you think you can see clearer your instincts get better and thus better shots and more kills

Why would it change? He's going to have the same type of armour as he had in Halo 2.

No, I meant Microseft. Technically, the cliche is Microsoft.

Well, while he may still have the same armor, i think it is very plausable that he could get a software upgrade at some point in the game. I would personally like it to be posible to see your health in the game, like in halo 1. Cuz there was health in Halo 2, just not alot, and you couldn't see it. I would like to have it in Halo 3.

  • 06.18.2006 6:39 AM PDT

No no no! No friggin new stuff there's enough crap clogging up the screen we don't need other crap!

When my tv splits to two our three or four for split screen, the HUD itself stays the same size it would on full-screen. I have like a 22 inch tv so I have about 6cm of seeing with the huge hud. Bungie should make it get smaller smaller as the screen gets smaller and smaller.

Halo: Combat Evolved ultra fanboy.

I like how the HUD is in Halo 2 for the most part. However, I've always been a proponent of the health meter, so I would like the health bar to be placed at the bottom left corner of the screen where the sheild is now, maybe in a circular shape underneath the motion sensor.
I also would like to have more info on your teammates (no, I am not trying to make this into a squad based shooter). I want to have your teammates' icons on the right side of your screen, surrounded by a small box that would show their health (i.e. blue, yellow, red, or gray [for dead]) and when your teammate died his icon would fade or become grayish. Next to their icon and your icon (where it already is in the game [lower right hand side next to the score]) Bungie should put small X's to show kills that you or your teammates scored. When the enemy respawns, the X's would dissappear, so you could use them as a means of telling how many enemies are still alive at one time.
This all would help streamline the HUD, since it would remove some of the text that shows up on your screen.
Also, I want Bungie to change the triangle icon for assault games. I think that it is stupid that the icon turns yellow when the bomb is armed and red when it is planted, since that does not help out the defense at all. It should be more like the CTF indicator. It should be red when the bomb is arming, and yellow when the bomb is in the arming area.

Oh yeah, forgot. You should be able to play with no HUD so you can make movies more easily.

Have an option to take it all out except the reticle. That would be cool.

Make it all optional so if I wont I can hide everything or just the shields or any other combination. Colour and other stuff I dont mind.

You should of made up your own instrument. You could have named it the PolarLighting -a-phone. People would buy it and they would all be like "Awh, He's so cool for inventing the PolarLighting-a-phone."

I'd have to disagree on a few things there. The shielding system is fine as it is at the moment because it makes battles more agressive. You know that if you don't kill someone right away they'll come back at around full force.
It shouldn't show Xs where your enemies because in some larger games Xs would dominate your screen. It should also be your guess as to when the enemy respawns (unless you wanna hold the BACK button).
The bomb thing is fine the way it is. It makes it so that you have to be paying some sort of attention in order to catch the bomber in the act. If a huge symbol appeared on your screen it would make arming the bomb even more impossible.

Probably because we see the MJOLNIR armour has had very little modifications to it.

At the end of halo 2 he enters a massive battle. Is he going to have a quick pop down to the armory and wait for them to invent some new armor (bout three days since he got the current stuff) .

I'd love a new HUD. Maybe little options to bring up screens of different angles to see around you (extended periferal vision < Spelling?). Think...you are in a hallway deep inside a flood filled area, you bring up your rear and left side view screen "WAAHH" you see flood coming out the walls, now if you didnt use that, you'd get -blam!- slapped by the flood.

Halo: Combat Evolved ultra fanboy.

I cannot agree with Polar

First off, I'll tackle the bomb thing. If it makes you pay attention, then why not make the CTF one the same way? Have it turn red when the oppenent scores? It makes no sense to have it the way it currently is. The X's would not dominate your screen. This is hard to explain, but they would be small, and there would be a total of 8 possible on your sceen (BTB all enemies dead at once) and they would be translucent so as to not disrupt your gameplay, as well as being VERY small.

I HATE THE SHIELD SYSTEM!! Sorry, but I believe that it was one of the three worst parts of Halo 2 (others are removing of good pistol and the implementation of auto aim). I loved health packs and they should definately return, since it made less skilled players more useful to a team since they might INJURE an enemy. THIS IS ONE AREA I will not back down on. I am very strongly for the return of the health bar, since it added an entirely different aspect of gameplay that I really miss.

To the other guy farther down.... I know it is hard to explain and visualize, but the X's would NOT interfere with gameplay at all.

According to Bungie, the Master Chief has gone through alot. So he probably had to get repairs from a nearby armoury.

UNSC forces would have probably retreated or fallen back in order to regroup for a counter-offensive. The Master Chief could have arrived on Earth just in time after escaping the Forerunner ship to get some touch-ups.
The UNSC haven't got the men nor the resources to battle non stop now that New Mombasa has been completely boned.

I think MC should have ability to see his weapons and ammo for each in the HUD. How many times have you run out a clip of your BR, switched to secondary in a firefight and see its ran out also? So it would maybe help seeing ah i have no ammo, must reload that one too or pick up another weapon.

Apart from being Uber high res.

I like the idea of being able to select what parts of the HUD you want to appear. On the one hand you could turn everything off for filming, and on the other you could just turn of select parts to make yourself seem more pr0 by not 'needing' parts of the HUD.

New additions to the HUD would be more based on what we need because of new gameplay features.
