Ok now i know this answer is probably staring me straight in the face but im not sure so here goes.

Well i was reading the piece of news about series 8 of the halo action figures and i took a look at the caption under the new MC/infection form models, this is what it says :

Spartan 117, the Master Chief, first encountered the alien parasite known as the “Flood” on the Halo ring. The Master Chief’s Mjolnir armor provided barely enough protection for him to survive the Flood’s indiscriminate attacks on his marine companions and Covenant forces alike.

The Flood “super-cell” feeds on cadavers’ calcium stores to produce its most basic incarnation, the “infection form.” Small and vulnerable to most projectile and energy weapons, infection forms overwhelm their prey by attacking en masse. They bore into victims with a rasping tongue and quickly transform foes into robust Flood “combat forms.”

Now the bottom part interested me, the infection forms use the calcium stores in the dead bodies to turn into an infection form. My question is, if the halos wipe out all life except the flood, whats to stop the flood from just taking over all the bodies of the victims from the halos?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, wasnt sure where it would go.

Thanks,
-Grim.

You should of made up your own instrument. You could have named it the PolarLighting -a-phone. People would buy it and they would all be like "Awh, He's so cool for inventing the PolarLighting-a-phone."

Well, the Halos seem to kill everything but flood, we know that much. What we don't know is how it kills people. Most likely ratiation, but the forunners probably would've thought about the calcium thing. Maybe it changes the calcium through some sort of controlled transmutation? It would explain why there aren't any forunner bones (composed mostly of carbon and calcium) lying around.

Facts are the enemy of tru7h....

Here's how I see it... The Flood need the bodies of their enemies to reproduce and the overall goal of the flood parasite is to create higher and higher level Flood forms, so Graveminds, Brain Forms etc... To do this they need an organisms with both Sentience and with enough Biomass (including the Calcium stores). To my mind the body would have to be in quite good condition (i.e. recently killed/deceased) to be able to create these higher, more intelligent Flood forms as they would need the brain to be in quite good condition. So yes the Flood could just go out and produce lots and lots of infection forms, But ultimately that does them no good as a) there are no other organisms to infect and b) by the time they reach all the planets that had suitable life forms on them, the life forms would be to badly decayed to actually be useful to the flood beyond creating new infection forms...

i hope that makes sense...
