I was the first Spartan. And I will be the last. Mythic on 9/1/2012 never forget
PAX 08, Third Team against Luke and Shishka, AR dual to
the Death, won by one point... Assembly hasn't changed.

urk: "This is a bad idea."
DeeJ: "Hold still..."

Just a little bit ago in Burritosenior's thread about meeting up in the Mideast/Midwest, someone suggested a BungieCon.
Obviously it was just a thought someone had but it's a good one.

Why not have a specific event JUST for Bungie? Maybe 343i and Bungie?

I've noticed that events like ComicCon and PAX are selling out quicker than you can click on the page, and the sad fact is there are just too many people wanting to attend. So why not have an event with a little closer group?

Bungie.Net has always been a bit of a family atmosphere, at least that what Bungie it seems has tried to set up, so why not have an event SPECIFICALLY for Bungie.net members?

Does this limit the crowd? Sure. But it also would help make this community into just that, a community, and not just a random barrel of gamers.

Still. There are well over 100,000 users on this sight. Active ones.
Now imagine a ticket for a three day pass costing $50.
if ONLY 100,000 attended, that'd be $5,000,000 in Bungies pocket alone.
Obviously there would be costs. Say even $3,000,000 worth. But that still $2,000,000 for Bungie. That 2 million dollars into a new IP, or the next trilogy. Or into more employees. or into new equipment.

We, as a community, could single handedly make Bungie one of the best funded Game developers in the business, and thus, help them make better games.

I realize this is all a bit of a stretch, getting everything right, setting everything up. This even takes time away from Bungie doing what they do best; making games. But it would help build a the oh so solid fan base into an even stronger, more connected fan base.

What say you, Bungie community?

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I'd love the idea and I'd love to attend, but realistically, not even half, perhaps if you're lucky, not even 1/4 would even attend that event.

It would have to be organized and done in a place where it could be decently centric for most members around the around. The great majority of B.nets populace is underaged, and even then, for those of us who live far, the cost is just too much.

Or Bungie could just help us with the airline costs.

;)

I'm going to comicon next year but if Bungie/343iCon happens then I will drop ComiCon and go to that instead.

Bye.

I couldn't imagine Bungie putting any money into it at first, it's a massive risk. It's better off just being a meet up for now until more and more people start attending.

If we could get some sort of small annual thing to start being consistant, perhaps we could later convince Bungie to let us move it more into their ownership. We first have to prove that it's worthwhile though.

In other news, I'd totally be down with something like this though, like I said in the other thread.

Well, this is all a good idea and all. But it'll never happen, unless someone gets up and says "I'm going to make this happen", and people are willing to help out and attend.

For now, a community gathering is much more realistic. But again, we need people to plan it and get more people involved.

I would go, if its in driving distance of the greater Toronto area, but im guessing it would be in Seattle.

I'm just wondering what exactly we would do for BungieCon. Do we just talk about Bungie? Go to a bar? Raid Bungie's studio?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Probably like Blizzcon or something.

Bungie could have panels, there could be costume contests, booths, promotions, and charity auctions.

Basically.

Also, as a few of you have said, this would have to be something we as a community would probably start first, get a good couple dozen, and work our way up.

I mean, PAX started in a basement.

I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

I don't think a developer should have their own convention unless they are developing multiple franchises simultaneously. Destiny isn't enough.

If bungie's next game is a hit then it will have its own conventions such as halo does.

bungie and 343? that sickens me that you would ever think that would happen.

Bye.

The downside to the convention being centered around Bungie is that they only release a game ever 2-3 years. That means any sort of panel would be restricted to talking about stuff that's already public about the current game and tiny tidbits of information on the next game.

"When's the next game coming out?"
"Soon(tm)"
"Will there be DLC?"
"Maybe"
"Can you tell us anything about the game you just teased?"
"Not really"

Or maybe I'm being a nark.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

BungieCon should be held mainly online, but there should also be locations to meet up at.

Is that any different than 99% of the panels at Halo fest?

They have books, anime, comics and a whole universe to talk about.

We currently have this.

Not at all, you bring up a good point.
But it would be more of a "party" then a convention.
Think of it as a way for the Studio to bond with the community at large, and the community to bond with the community at large.
Lots of bonding.

Maybe at one time it was, but now you're lucky if you can breathe in that place. So many people in such a little area. and so many there for some many other things.

BungieCon wouldn't be limited to the newest IP. It could be about everything. From Marathon to Destiny.
Bring back the old and highlight the new.
