Subject: Armor Lock. Why it Sucks.

In large numbers. Playing against enemies with armour lock can at times be frustrating.

I use armour lock in Team Slayer and it works for me. I recently came upon a tactic where two armour locking opponents go into AL to avoid the other's EMP.

I don't very often get the fortune of a team mate coming to my rescue in AL. You are a sitting duck. But in CQC it is very useful. Just got to know how to use it.

Too bad for you. It's no different from -blam!-s who jetpack with rockets, or camo snipers. Get over it and adapt.

Just like those sprinters who double melee you out of nowhere and there's nothing you can do

Why Bungie, why would you do this?! - Halo Community

Bungie.net is already well aware of this information OP. You should consider preaching this here.

There being 'nothing you can do' isn't really an excuse though, is it?

The 343 forums suck. They're full of retarded kids and mods who got butthurt in the B.net forums for being told that they're bad.

Since most guns take a few seconds to deplete a shield, and one melee does that instantly, and Sprint decreases the time it takes to reach someone, and the slower default acceleration makes it harder to avoid the second punch, and the larger window for mutual kills, it is much harder to stop people from double-punching while surviving at anything less than twenty feet.

If you see somebody sprinting at you, wouldn't the logical thing be to back up and shoot at them? Alternatively, carry a close-quarters weapon and kill them when they get close. You really should have one on you anyway.

Saying there's 'nothing you can do' is just wrong.

As I said, the slow movement acceleration would screw you over from going full forward to full backward in less that 20 feet, and full backward is even slower than full forward, not to mention a sprinter. The lunge distance makes up for too much of the distance, and as I said before, most weapons don't deplete shields fast enough to kill the puncher before he reaches you. And even if it did, the window for mutual kills is so large that I've even shot people in the head and still get punched to death; after doing everything right, I still died. The melee does not have to be that strong, period.

And yes, the way to stop double punchers is to constantly have a shotgun or sword on you. The only non-power weapons that strip shields faster than normal are plasma weapons and the spiker. The spiker is rare as hell on almost all maps as well as the plasma rifle, and the plasma pistol is almost as cheap as double-punching.

My point is, the melee has no need to be that strong. A reduced melee strength would solve so many problems.

It's been like that since Halo 3. Are you sure changing it wouldn't make it 'not Halo'? I know competitives get their panties in a knot over that sort of thing.

Halo 3 wasn't perfect, and the melee strength was one of the main complaints of AR-rushing. So instead of making the melee back to how well it worked back in Halo 1 and 2, they added this retarded new mechanic that makes melee fights just silly.

Ohai, I'm Loscocco (pronounced Loss-cocoa). I'm a college student (computer science major), 3D animator, and long-time Halo player.

Well thank goodness this thread appeared else I would have never guessed why Armor Lock was bad...

"She is starting to damage my calm."

I kind of like AL - particularly for killing vehicles. But I don't really get how to use it for anything else. I pretty much always mess it up though - like most everything I do in Halo. I also forget to use it in the heat of the game.

In the next 5 years I will be a cop its my long term goal.

Really its been almost 2 years why are people still talking about this?

Why Bungie, why would you do this?! - Halo Community

At least in H3 you had bleedthrough as a counter for double pummels. In Reach, all you can just hope to pop the enemy's shields before he melee'd you, or throw a pop/reverse/corner grenade, and all those techniques are extremely difficult to pull off.

I have been in a few games with about five armor lock people now, and its impossible to get kills when they go into armor lock when you're just about to kill them and their teammates come and clean you up while you're waiting for him to get out of armor lock and it makes the playing experience drop down like a full half.

Armour lock is tactical

Exactly. I think bungie added armour lock to emphasise teamwork. That's why its not in the playlists where being in a group is less effective. (BTB, swat etc.)
