"Except we, we're the zebras. All fenced in...and ready for the slaughter!"

A Halo era Bungie Policy regarding inactive accounts was that a year of inactivity resulted in the deletion of ones account. Upon handing Halo over to Microsoft, it was decided to abandon this policy. The policy change makes sense as it allows former Bungie fans to flock back, without any issue, come the announcement of Destiny/Comet.

I was wondering, will Bungie ever revert back to this policy? Is there good reason not to?

There's no reason, unless the site can't handle the amount of users, to begin deleting accounts again.

"If only, if only,"
The woodpecker sighs,
"The bark on the trees was as soft as the skies."
While the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely;
Crying to the moon,
"If only, if only."

Unless they allow the changing of usernames I think they should bring it back. Because if not names will be taken and cannot be used.

Well I took a LONG break and I would be really sad if this account was gone upon my return.

  • 08.07.2012 3:41 PM PDT

I doubt they will bring it back. It didn't really have an advantage in my opinion.

Imagine if you were Fabled Mythic or whatever and you took a one year break.

How about a ratio of time spent here vs time spent away.

Here's my twitter, in the off-chance you want that too.

Bye.

I can't remember if this is correct but after an account was deleted wasn't the username available to use again? If it's true then that's the only reason I would bring it back. Unless memory became an issue (which it isn't).

That would work, I guess. Especially for spam accounts.

I think I remember remaking an account in '06 after my old one was deleted. It had the same name and everything.

So if I make an account and then went on holiday for a week it would be deleted? That's not exactly fair.

I think this was the case. There are some usernames that I would like that are taken by accounts far past the 1 year limit.

I believe that feature has been turned off for a good while now, perhaps even before Bungie went dark? The entire "I'm returning to Bungie.net only to find my account is gone" might not be too huge of an issue.

The one year period would still be there. But if you've been active for 2 years, then go away for a year, it would still be there for another 6 months or so. Just an example.

No - bungie.net doesn't store the WLID logins (the email you're referring to), so we can't help you get them back if you can't get them back through WLID support.

I love looking at really old threads, users, and groups. It's kinda a mystic, eerie feeling, like seeing some subterranean ruins beneath a bustling city.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

Social engineering others these days doesn't seem to be too hard. I can't imagine that it would be difficult to social engineer yourself.

Edit: And I read your post too fast and missed the context. Whoops. Anyway good luck with the account/email search.

What happens if you delete your WLID externally? Will the account just sit, or is there a way to have it deleted?
