Please no flaming, I am just trying to help.

This post concerns the Halo 3 forum, but likely applies to most of the other forums.

First, just to get this out of the way,
No more "Halo 3 Discussion Thread"s that is what the whole forum is for we don't need a thread for it.

Alright, for those who want the forum less cluttered,
I agree that there are too many threads about nothing or the same thing already discussed, but it has been tried many times and it has never worked and likely never will. But, if you want to post a new topic, please take these steps:
1) Check that the same thing isn't already discussed on page 1 or 2 of the forum.
2) If you find a post with close to the same idea as yours, read through the thread to see if your question was already answered.
3) If your question was not answered:
A) If there was a similar thread, post in that thread your question and wait for a reply.
B) If there was not a similar thread, create a new topic.(see below)

Courtesy guidelines when creating a new topic:
1) Never use all capital letters- It is not needed to get your point across and usually annoys other people, causing you to get flamed.
2) Keep abbreviations to a minimum- This is a message board, not instant messager and many people will not know all of the abreviations.
3) Make sure your topic has not already been disproven- Example: A post saying that it is not the Master Chief in the trailer has already been contradicted by Frankie saying that it is the Master Chief in the trailer.
4) Try to use correct spelling- When incorrect spelling is used, it can obscure your point. If you do not know how to spell a word, try to use a different word or use a dictionary.
5) When possible, show your references as a link or a quote- having evidence helps prove your point, but if you just say you read it somewhere, not everyone will know what you are referencing.
*The commands for italics, bold, and links can be found on the right side of the reply screen*
6) Do not over use bold or italics- Only use bold and italics to emphasize important points.
7) Do not bump your thread
8) Preview your post for errors- Spelling and coding errors are easily corrected before someone points it out to you.

Courtesy guidelines when replying:
See guidelines 1,2,4,5, 6, and 8 above.
1) Try not to flame, try constructive criticism- It is not neccesary to be a jerk to disagree.
2) Explain your position- Simply saying "no" is not helpful and often irritates the thread starter.
3) Do not take a quote out of context- It is the easy way to tick someone off and just takes the thread further off-topic.
4) Always read the entire topic post- Even if the post is long, considering you are on the message boards, you have the time to read it. Also, the post may sway your position on the topic.

Read and use ALL of the stickies They are there to help the forum run smoothly.

Now, I know that many people will just ignore my post, but if just a few people change their ways it this post was worth it.
