It would affect Halo 3's release date. Maybe I misphrased my opinion; I would like to see Halo 3 released w/o the map editor so it would come out sooner, and w/o the devs worrying about whether the map editor works. If they wanted to, they could take all the time in the world and eventually release the editor later for a few hundred Microsoft Points. Map editors can be a real pain for the devs, since they have to make sure it works w/o glitches and so that Joe Shmo down the street can use it. That would probably take months to code probably. I'd rather have them more worried about designing the multiplayer game (and maps) than a map-editor. It would be okay if the editor was released after they finished and shipped Halo 3. Bungie doesn't have a large staff, so they'd have to split up their multiplayer guys to design the editor and the game itself. I'd rather have them concentrating on the game's core.

Maps of our own would only be used in LAN, not Online like you're saying

Well, what about the time the developer would waste developing a map-editor, that wouldn't really make the game sell any better with it.

Please, I'd hate to see a map editor. Let there just be official, downloadable maps on the XBLM.
It's a dumb idea.

Even though making wouldnt make it sell any better, Online maps do get old quite fast in my opinion, Being able to either make the map a little better to our liking, or just making a really cool map we can use on our own would be really cool, but only for LAN purposes only

ChaosWeaver, I couldn't agree more. Only official Bungie maps for future Live download.

Personally I'd rather see a map editor. Of course there will be stupid maps, but there are precious few people out there who make damn good ones, and will probably find a way to congeal together and let us normal people get them. If that's even possible I dunno.... Regardless of that assumption, I doubt Bungie would allow ranked matches for custom maps, therefore It's logical to assume that they would have a special playlist all it's own for customizable maps. However logic can not be always counted on... I don't disagree with your points, it's just personally I'd like to try my hand at making custom maps, time isn't really a factor in any way for me in lieu of production. However, it's only a big thing for me if they announce a map editor. At this rate, I don't think they've even considered it, so it's supperfluous. But ultimately I would really love to see what people can do, or I could do, with a map editor.

Halo's a hell of a drug.

Map editor wouldn't be bad for those who want it, but keep it off of matchmaking or quickmatch. Only let it on live through parties. The problem with a map maker is that it will have to be debugged and I don't want to spend time downloading some persons bugged up map that was probably built to give them an advantage.

Well, not submitting them online is an okay idea (except online should be allowed only for parties), but like I said: what about wasting the developers time? I'd rather see Halo 3 March w/o an editor, than Halo 3 July with an editor. Maybe if they released for download on Xbox Live in the furure for, like, 700 MPs.

a map-editor would make new maps easier to code, thus we could recieve more downloadable maps faster

1. It's extra work for the developers.
2. People would put their creative imaginations to use. (ie: -blam!--shaped maps)
3. No guaranteed quality when playing other peoples maps online; so, if the editor was included, the games should not be ranked since many of them would be designed to be one-sided.
4. I would rather get Halo 3 as soon as it was sufficiently done, rather than waiting a couple extra months for a map editor.
5. Since there would be no quality control, most of the custom-made maps would chew up HDD space and most of the games you would go into would suck because of the lack of decent maps.
6. A map-editor is just a peripheral throw-on that would not make the game any more enjoyable, since it would most likely frustrate people due to the quality of the custom maps.
7. I have full belief in Bungie to create a plethora of balanced and enjoyable maps.

Sure, it would be fun to play around with, but it's cons outway it's pros.

P.S. the -blammed!- word is a male -blam!- reproductive organ...

true but some people might make good maps on it.

You make it sound like a map editor would detract from the game. All your points are weak arguments. Including a map editor doesn't mean they'd suddenly take away the Bungie-made maps and that you'd be playing peoples random maps in ranked matches. It would almost certainly only be available in custom/arranged matches, thus making it an option whether to play them or not, so, if you really wanted, a map editor wouldn't affect you at all.

well thats fine to say you dont want it to affect release date, but your subject states otherwise. But just wait for it to come out, we want bungie to come out with a GREAT game, so if they need more time to change some thing, by god let them have all the time they need

I changed the topic. After I read it over, I felt my core idea was that the map-editor would affect the game's ship date and quality. I didn't really care about the other parts of my argument, I just threw them on to make it seem stronger. After further consideration, I decided I would not mind an editor, as long as it was released after the game shipped.

I would have to say that many of the Halo 2 maps are a big argument against this, since they suck, with the exception of Lockout, which Frankie's own numbers show is the overwhelmingly played Halo 2 map.

I have 5 unanswerable arguments in favor of Halo getting a map editor; the two Community Bonus Packs and the three Ultimate Community Map Packs released for Unreal Tournament 2004. All fan made maps, all of which are absolutely superb, and some of which are arguable better than the "Official" Epic/Digital Extremes maps that shipped with the game.

I currently have over 200 maps for UT2004, and I only keep the really good commerical grade ones.

There would be a big problem with map editor.

To be able to play the map, you must download it first, right?

It would be difficult to play custom games if everyone doesn't have the same map downloaded.

"Do you have this map?"
"No"
"What about thin map?"
"Not that one either"
