I ask this because I have never heard of there being any female Brutes, and whilst playing Halo 3 just now one of the Brutes said "No! He was my lover!" after I killed a Brute.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I'm pretty sure I've heard somewhere something about Brute females. But as with all species ,except the Jackals, in The Covenant, only males fight.

So there are homo-blam!- Brutes?

That, or it was just a joke. Was IWHBYD on?

Yes there are female brutes seeing as the are more or less mammal's and cannot reproduce a-blam!-ly. Brothels were mentioned in "stomping on the heels of a fuss".

When it comes to Halo lore you really shouldn't base any assumptions off things that are not central to the games' plots or base it off gameplay.

Look to the plot and books instead. Something like "he was my lover" is almost certainly a joke. For example the talking grunt at the end of Halo 3 says he has the Fist of Rukt, but everyone knows Bungie put him in there for laughs, so it is highly unlikely he has it.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

I'm glad they didn't include female Brutes in the game. It puts a scary image in my mind of a brute with 50's wife hair.

I made a thread a while back explaining this. The brutes are based off of the tradgedy of julius caesar. In this play lovers really means dear friends. So instead of "No he was my lover!" it really translates to "No he was my friend!"

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

It could also be "brother," not lover.

Yes, I've heard that particular line several times. I can assure you that he is saying "No, he was my brother!" which fits in quite well with their clanistic/tribal culture.

"He was my lover!" is in with IWHBYD on. Which, dialogue from that typically just is silly.

Still, I really don't see why the heck there is an issue if they said that line, and if there was female brutes.......

A tosser is the same as a wanker. To toss oneself off is to fondle the trouser weasel.

A bit off subject but I remember a Brute in Halo 3 that is standing in a corner pissing. Only men piss standing.

It's quite possible that only males serve in the military.

In Halo the only Brutes we see are those in the military.\

Therefore we only see male Brutes in the games.

Also, anything that is NOT important to the plot in the games is a POOR choice of evidence when talking about the lore.

And..... how the hell does that relate to whether or not Brutes have a single gender?

  • 08.09.2012 10:22 AM PDT

That would be impossible, so no. I'm gonna second that notion about only males fighting.

Please don't hype for games...
They'll just fall short of your expectations and you'll complain for months.

In the Halo 3 limited edition book, I believe it says only males fight...
