Just look how high they are, that's outer space.

That still doesn't answer the part about the parachutes. How is nylon cloth going to make through the atmosphere? It can't, because they're inside the atmosphere jumping from a high altitude six to twenty miles above sea level. Also, one does not "jump" or "fall" in space.

Well, push off the Pelican, you know what I mean. They're going the Pelican's speed so they won't start floating at a slower speed.

Who said nylon cloth? The ODST's Drop Pods have Parachute like attachments that don't burn up in the atmosphere, why can't that be the same?

Air brakes and parachutes aren't the same. The HEV's air brake deploys after atmospheric insertion and is made of the same material as the pod. Air brakes also don't ripple in the wind, of which there is none in space. As for pushing off the Pelican, look at the soldier closest to the Pelican, it looks as if he's just leaning over the edge.

I want to read all the books before GoC comes out but I don't know where to get them without getting them online.

Ona side note, (nothing to do with the thread) that reminds me. Does anyone remember when they gave Halo 2 a 'working title'?

It was Halo 2: Broken Covenant. That kinda gave the ending didn't it.

One shot: one kill, zero seconds to live

I discussed this earlier today, here's the offical report on the 4th book

Little information is known about the contents of the novel, other than it may deal with the planet Coral, which was mentioned in the "Conversations from the Universe" booklet included with the Halo 2 Limited Edition game. An archaeological expedition to the planet had found a suspected Forerunner artifact underground and were investigating them with an ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence) team. In more detail, it was found during routine quarrying and explosives were used and blasted a huge hole. The rock and dirt around the enormous protruding structure were vaporized, but the structure wasn't even scorched. It was over 30 meters tall, and from what they currently knew, it was just "the tip of the iceberg" so to speak.

you can also preorder the book at amazon.com, the release date is set to be on October 31, 2006

I got mine from Borders. I think Gamestop might have them, too.

Ugh, nobody said this at all. That's total bs. Sorry to burst the bubble :) Anywho, we're discussing the books- this isn't about new Spartans, so let's keep it on topic.

I think I'm going to have to go read the "Conversations from the Universe"- lately, I've been so into Halo, replayed the games, read the books, went through ilovebees recordings, etc... I totally forgot that that was in the Collector's Edition of Halo 2.
