I'm re-reading Halo: First Strike for the heck of it. The last time I read the book, I must of missed this part or something. For those who actually have the book, on Pg. 192, it says this...

She began toying with the idea of dumping that data into Ascendant Justices's onboard memory. Now that the other AI had been erased, it should be safe. Yet one piece of technological data had already been leaked to the enemy . . . and that could have extreme reprecussions in the war effort. If the Halo data got into Covenant hands - the war would be over.

Alright, I know that the first Halo was a big deal and could have destroyed the entire human species and the covenant, but in this book, there isn't another Halo in play. That won't happen until Halo 2. So, what data did she get that would be helpful to the Covenant? I honestly can't think of anything. Help me out here.

The info from the core might contain specs for forrunner technology, locations of forunner installations, data about the flood.

ok, cortana has gained alot of information on halo...she can only have so much memory and with all the information from halo (thats alot of memory) if cortan just dumps that onto the ship she can check it when she wants to and the covanat AI is already gone so....if she dumps her info onto the ship she will be able to work 10 times faster......

Cortana knows almost absolutely nothing about how the ships' networking and its computer. She did not build it, she only hacked into it. There are so many unknown possibilities if Cortana dumps all the info from Halo onto the ship's computer. Its not a risk shes willing to take. What happens if that info somehow becomes contaminated? Its uselsee if it gets that way. Her first and foremost job right now is to get to Earth and make sure the Halo info is delivered to ONI.

One thing that she didn't want the covenant to get was her upgraded plasma weapons, but that wasn't part of the Halo database, but thats what I thought she was talking about when she said it could easily destroy humanity.

well said... it would be interesting to see what would happened if the one had'nt shot the engineer that had repaired MC's MJOLNIR... whether or not it would have (or would have been able to) told the covie about the armor...
