Subject: Invisible Ranks for Halo 3...

Being cool is a fulltime job...

I think among other possible options to prevent cheating, that having invisible ranks would take away at least some of the reason for people to cheat since they wont have a high number or symbol next to their name to boast about. If the true purpose of a rank is to match you up with players of similar skill levels, what does it matter if they are visible or not?

That is a good idea. You should be able to see your rank but nobody else. Others would be opposed to the idea though. Only because they want to brag and be full of themselves, like there better than every one because they can play a video game better.

I like the idea, but it won't stop cheaters. High rank isn't always why they cheat. Sometimes they do it just to do it, to piss people off. To be "gods" at gameplay.

Excellent idea. I haven't seen it on the forum yet. Nice job on originality.

No, no, no...Training has invisible levels and there are hardly ever serious games in Training.

Maybe change the ranks from numerical values to actual Navy ranks..I find it hard to believe someone will cheat to become a PFC.

Good point, I dont know if you've played GRAW or not, but that game uses military ranks and it is very hard to find a fair match... I understand why you would be against the invisible ranks idea, i didnt think of that when making my post... In all probability, the best and maybe only way to effectively combat cheating would be with technical prevention, which apparently is very difficult...

And yeah, Opey could probably win that game without using his BR. Best SMG user in Halo.

You know, the main reason people cheat in matchmaking now, is because they're bored.

Help a brother out. Click on the referral link, sign up for a fun game, log in once for the next couple of days, then you never have to think about it again!

And yes. I understand how pathetic that is, but nobody reads these things anyway... right?

I wouldn't mind if only you could see your rank, but to completely abolish visible ranks I think is obsurd. I understand that it might stop some cheating, but almost definately not all of it. I also see ranks as a reason (the only reason) to play ranked instead of unranked! In Call of Duty 2, the ranks system is invisible, so I see no point in playing the ranked matches. I enjoy seeing my work pay off when I raise a level. I also enjoy knowing that I'm about to go down a level, so I can play that much more fierce to keep it.

I say keep ranks until cheating cannot be stopped. Then just remove ranks. Because until there was cheating, having ranks was pretty fun. Then the cheating scum bags had to come and mess everything up.

Worst idea ever.. 1st of all no one will take any game seriously, you join a game only to be killed by people on your own team that just don't give a dam as there is nothing to lose by doing this sure there "invisable rank" will drop but that will only mean they go up aginst easier people and crush them.

Also i like to brag about my rank and to show it off.. but not enough to cheat because i want people to see how "good" i am and not to see how well i can "cheat" also having a rank will help in keeping the teams even in custom games and stuff like that.

Making ranks "invisable" has a hell of alot more downsides than upsides - it's only upside is that it will prevent people from cheating to show off there rank and thats it, also doing this is letting the cheaters win and as much as you think it will prevent them.. It simply won't what so ever come up with a better way to deal with cheaters like "dedicated servers" - one of the most effective ways of dealing with them.

XattaX you can't possibly know why ranks were even put there in the 1st place with that statement.

They were put there so there was a level playing field for all players.

This makes sense... People would still get "gamer creds" for good scores, which is X360's little ranking system they use.

Actually I think its called Gamerscore

I wish that this would stop it, it won't though. It would stop a few of them, but we will never stop them all. Unless bungie creates a way to legally kill cheaters, and eliminate them from the gene pool.

Well you can't eliminate cheaters unless you eliminate the incentive to win...
So in Halo 3 ALL GAMES MUST END IN A TIE! ALWAYS!

lol this idea simply wouldnt work what so ever, just because modders and bridges dont have a rank to show off dosent mean they wont do it. i have many friends that are bridges and modders.. they really don't care for rank what so ever..
