in Fall of Reach, Dr. Haley or Mendez trains around 76 trainees for the Spartan project. Why only 76 when in her example she mentions 300 spartans were trained as children? Please help me...

i believe that around 300 children were reviewed as candidates for the program but only 70-some were actually accepted.

Many of the kids die due to the intense training.. i think i cant remember its been a while
then sum of them as grown ups die due to being intergrated with the armor

One shot: one kill, zero seconds to live

three hundred spartan canidates were reviewed, but only 75 were selected. after being intergrated with cybernetic parts and biological enhancesments only about 33 are left. this number decreases even more as the story goes on. at the end of Halo: first strike only about 4-5 are left. sad ending

Many didn't make it through the basic training. The numbers dwindled even more when they were pumped full of drugs.

Although some would say otherwise...

In addition to John, Kelly, Linda, Fred, and Will, there were also three Spartans that could not be recalled to Reach for the mission that the Spartans were to set out on (capture a Prophet) before Reach was attacked. However, it is reasonable to assume these Spartans are also dead, as we hear nothing further of them in the books beyond that one sentance, and the planet that they were fighting on was probably glassed.

Old GTs; RebelRobot, Flamedude

I think there were 300-odd candidates but due to the budget allotted to the project only 75 (or was it 76?) children could be accepted into the programme.

And where is everyone getting 300 from? Are you thinking of Thermopyle?

There is nothing mad or angry about your question. Could you please rephrase your question to reflect some anger?

300 was the number reviewed and selected for the training. After they got all of the enhancements and training a lot of them didn't make it to become the spartans that the last 76 were.

If you have a page reference or quote it would help, I can't find where it says that bit about the 300.
