Gearbox had no choice with what they had to do with halopc, there were mandates by microsoft that effected aot fo the decisions in it, resulting in the high system requirements, map cashe system, and most importantly the netcode.

Read that, you will see lots of the problems in CE/PC were not Gearbox's fault.

i dont see how that -blam!- up HPC, since all FPS games today have one CD, and 56K multiplayer support, with no bullet lag, and again fixed function support, wtf does that have to do ith anything?
Refer to my post above for the netcode mandate. The One CD system effected the way they had to make maps load. Had they been allowed to make HPC on several discs, we would probably have had custom map and editing out of the box. The map structure had to be changed for haloce to allow self contained maps. HaloCE compiles and loads referanced bitmaps from bitmaps.map, while PC just loads ALL bitmaps from bitmaps.map.
