My theory is that Cortana will die in Halo 3. Here's why

In First Strike you find out that Cortana is getting a little sluggish and sloppy. The reason is because all the data that she obtains while in Halo's database. Some clues of that she might die our in Halo 2 and the books. 1. one that you might notice is on the cutscene when mc is blowing up the covenant cruiser. you'll notice that while he drifting in space in front of the covenant cruiser a UNSC ship flies in front of him to intercept the covenant ship. notice when the ship fires it shoots 3 times at the ship totally obliterating the UNSC ship.what does that have to do with anything?? in first strike when cortana is in the Ascendant Justice she finds a better way to fire the plasma cannons ( in three short fires) now since she had been slowed down a lot she might have left some traces of how to fire them, but how the covenant found out i dont know because it blew up at the rally point with all the covenant ships around it 2. in another cut scene this one after u blow up the scarab u notice that the covenant criuser goes into slipspace inside the city. in first strike cortana had done a similar thing but not that close to the ground but she was in the atmosphere of the planet or moon (i forgot wut it was) again i dont know how the covanant obtained this information maybe they searched through the debri of the ascendant justice considering tarterus found fragments of the crystal 3. also in the trailer for H3 she looks like she in distress in some parts 4. in first strike mc says cortana had been acting a little weird even before halo

...And so the hero crawled through the fissure on the surface of Tyr. There, the lone Dwarf stared into the cold, dark eyes of Soulblighter...The fiend hefted his blade over his shoulder as a flock of raven took upon his form...

usually AI's have at least a 7 year life span

I dont even need to read that to know she will die. She has been a vital plot in the first and second games but because of her age, she will die.

She has all the halo crap in her aswell as a virus from High Charity. She wont last all the way through halo 3.

One shot: one kill, zero seconds to live

she could just dump all of that information into a different storage drive and i bet ONI extracted most of the data from her and then compacted it into a smaller file. but cortana will die in seven years regardless of the amount memory space she uses up.

I am...whimsical today.

The Covenant received the Atmospheric Slip-space jump data from a data burst that the Covenant A.I. sent out while in orbit around Reach.

Smart A.I.'s have a 'lifetime' of around 7 years by which time they 'think themselves to death. The focus so much on processing, that they do not respond, and their general upkeep deteriorates (I can't remember how it is explained with processors etc sorry). It is like someone thinking so much, that they neglect their lungs and heart.

Cortana seems to have been specifically created for the Spartan mission, capturing a prophet and bringing it back to negotiate peace. It is tough to say how long that mission had been on the drawing board. I'm hazarding a guess at the start of 2552 (however if that seems unlikely please say). This would mean that Cortana was created during February maybe? Spring?

Halo takes place at the end of August, and Halo 2 is in the middle of October 2552. This would mean that Cortana is around 9-10 months old.

The theory that storing the vast amounts of Halo data in her system would shorten her 'life expectancy' could be possible. However I do not believe that it would bring 7 years down to 10 months.
I think it is unlikely that Halo 3 will draw on for a long enough period that Cortana will 'die'.

However. there may well be another method of death, than the natural one Smart A.I.'s undergo...
