While I do agree it would be nice if all the ninjas were one person, I do feel posting "report and move on" should be a bannable offense.

I'm probably an alt. You can probably guess for whom.

I'm not saying they should be one person, they should all follow the same guidelines. There shouldn't be exceptions if a certain ninja is online, and when it's any other ninja you get warned for the same thing. Basically, they should all enforce the exact same guidelines.
The rules are grey for a reason. Therefore, ninja's reactions are 'grey' also.

Bye.

We should have a single ninja that moderates 24/7. That will remove all the inconsistencies!

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

We are consistent on this issue. Don't post in bad threads. Report and move on.

And that doesn't mean post "report and move on." It means report and then move on.

That is the opinion of every moderator as to how anybody should react to a bad thread. Some moderators will warn or, on rare occasions, even ban users who post in bad threads because every post keeps that bad thread at the top of the forum and gives the troll the attention he seeks.

But you should not construe not being warned/banned for posting in a bad thread as moderators thinking it's okay to do it. We (and many of the other veteran users of these forums) have said over and over and over again that posting in a bad thread is not the appropriate reaction.

Think about it. Even if it is that strict, individuals will still have interpretations on the "stricter" rule set. Sometimes a cop gives you a ticket, sometimes a warning. Just depends.

Rules should never be gray. They should be black and white, don't do this, don't do that, this is okay, etc.
The rules used to be like that. Everybody complained that they were too long and difficult to read.

Best advice I can give.

Chill, have fun, and use common sense. If an infraction occurs, learn from it and move on. It is a game website. We aren't here to ruin your experience (Well Qbix is).

If you are serious about being a longtime member here, this will come naturally.

You wish they were consistant, they wish it was easy, I wish I had some food, and we all wish Bungie would give us SOMETHING about Destiny.

We all want want want. Dude, you gotta give them credit. They do something without pay, and out of the kindness of their hearts(debatable if they have any), and you want to complain about that?

I know it can be annoying when someone is inconsistant, but the examples you are giving are very much a case by case situation.

There are times when, posting in a thread is just the wrong idea. These threads are bound to receive a carpet ban, and you should know better than to post in them at all.

"Report and move on," while it is useful some of the time, is not always the way to go, as it can be misconstrued as spam. You have to be smart about it, because sometimes, you should just not reply at all. Be the better user, and just let it go.

But the most important thing is, always report when someone has a bad link. If you quote them, remove the link. Be smart, if the thread is dying, let it go. If you can be the first to post, then warn others, but don't feed a bad thread.

More often than not, the best post is no post. Ignore a troll, report, and just move on.

I don't think you understand the implications of what you suggest. It would be impossible to cover every possible scenario with a list of rules.

OP, I imagine Ninjas are chosen for their fair judgement and moderate approach to moderating. That does not mean they will always make the same decision in alike situations. They will do as they see just.

You could always do what I do and not even risk it. Just assume that posting in a thread like that is going to get you banned. It may not, but at least you know you'll be safe.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Which stance would you prefer ninjas take on the above scenario? Locking and nothing past that for replies, warning, or banning? I'd imagine you'd prefer the lock and nothing else, because since you decided to reply with a warning, you thought you were doing the right thing.

What if each circumstance is different enough to warrant different reactions? Say, someone posts a misleading thread which links to a shocksite. I'd say posting a warning that its a shocksite is acceptable, but still not something I'd recommend. If the thread is obviously spam or something harmful, like a topic which says its linking to a shocksite, then replying is not acceptable. Everyone knows its bad and should not be bumped with replies.

Do you see how inherently grey the extended scenarios are? How a "black and white" method to enforcing the rules and labeling and punishing violations is simply not possible? Not all threads will fall into the above hypothetical. Most won't even come close to it. Since every specific variation can not be quantified and planned for, you, the ninjas, and Bungie themselves have to adapt in order to deal with the constant stream of incoming potential problems.

The best way to do so on the average user's part is to report, not reply to anything that's even suspect, and move on.
