I've been screaming this since the days of halo 1, but please bungie, for Halo 3 Multi Player, let's take customizing games to the next level by offering, time of day and weather effects! In the snow or rain the warthog could control differently, and you could decrease visibilty with things like fog, so maybe a sniper would be hindered in that enviroment, or if it was snowy then imagine a level like containment (please don't put containment in halo 3) where you could get the flag and slide down the inclines on the front of the base, or the flag could skid across ice patches either in your favor or the other teams. Sports games have been offering these options for a long time, is pretty much standard in a sports title now. What is Halo Multi Player if not a sporting event? Please listen!

ps. When I customize a game, let me put what ever vehicle on whatever map I want, even if I want to put a scorpion tank on lock out.

you do realize that bungie does not listen to ppl's ideas because of copyright issues. think before posting.

youre an idiot. i doubt this guy copyrighted his idea before posting it.

anyways, its a good idea. i also think you should be able to customize what weapons are on the map (not just one set, i mean go in and check off what weapons you dont want etc.)

It has nothing to do with copyright issues,

they dont listen because a majority of the ideas are stupid!

oh well thats a bit unfair, they listen tot he community, but why? whats the point of weather effects?

It would add a deeper level of realism. I like this idea. I would also like it if vehicles behaved realistically relative to the damage they've sustained, like say a tire was blown out, so the warthog leans to the left and you have to compensate by oversteering, or a wraith's lift mechanism gets damaged but you can still operate it's canon. There's tons of possibilities. And for all the whiners that say that's too close to a simulator rather than an action game, there could be a classic mode where it's basically like playing Halo 2 but with better graphics.

This is a gameplay idea that was discussed before, but would be truly revolutionary.

Imagine warthogs skidding across roads in a thunderstorm and getting stuck in the mud while puddles build up, rain drips onto your visor and mist reduces your visibility.

As for time of day, they should make it variable. Imagine having to go the extra mile by fighting at nightfall. A varied skybox could handle this perfectly.

That would be very cool indeed. Obviously, over live real time would be impossibe because of the time zones butther could just be random weather or day and night times for that.

For offline though, I think it should be real time. It could use the 360's built in clock for that. Weather could just be random for offline aswell because real time weather would probably be too difficult.

The idea of machinima in real time makes me drool.

Of course, it would have to be heavily orchestrated and planned out.

But imagine a "24" type show done in Halo.

BTW, for the online real time factor, why not use the host 360's clock or Pacific Standard Time (the time zone of Bungie)?

Last time I checked, Halo wasn't a sports game. If they want to put in that option, then they will. If not, Halo is still going to be good. Just because another game does it, doesn't mean that Bungie should follow suit. Also, you are definitely not the first person to post this.

I won't even respond to that copyright guy, because that's just stupid. Well, I'm sure I wasn't the first person to post this idea, but I hadn't seen it on here before, but there are some 400-odd pages of post in this forum alone, but aside from altering any gameplay mechanics, I just think it would look cool and add some variation to the levels, I've been playing halo 2 since the first day it came out, and i still play all the time, and the levels just seem to get boring somtimes, and some variations could cure that. I agree that bungie should not do something just because some other games have done it, but at the same time I think that if it's a good idea that will make halo more enjoyable, then they shouldn't shy away from it just because some one else has done it. I mean it's not like they invented the first person shooter, dual weilding, explosive barrels or capture the flag. And those are all things that make halo great, even if you don't want to play a stormy-night game on zanzibar, you don't have to change it. I just like to be able to customize things. And I do see halo as something of a sports game, in multi player anyway. 2 teams alternating defense and offense trying to get more points than the other, it may not exactly be a sports game, but there is an undeniable a sporting element to the multi player side of halo.

i've been saying that too...and there is an immense chance that they will listen...weather is the extreme key to realism...

a storm! give us a storm!

We've been here since you left.
We left before you came.

Sure, lets make Bungie work harder and wait several more months for halo 3 to be released becuase of weather effects. Besides the fact that they don't really care

  • 06.20.2006 11:48 AM PDT

I would love to see weather effects on the visor itself. Rain drippes from the visor and snow hits and slowly melts away. Time of day on maps would make custom games very interesting.
