Or, add an S to the beginning of your username and remove the 6.

I don't mind the 6, I just want the 'c' to be capitalized.

I don't see why you're against it other than the (still stupid) "you need to learn to deal with {mistakes in your life/the consequences of your actions}" angle.
Same reasons I would be against a fat guy suggesting "Couch escalators".

Just because you're uncomfortable doesn't mean everyone should cater to you.
It's not everyone catering to me, or even to the portion of the community who would be in favor of this.

It's Bungie allowing us to correct or amend our usernames. Nobody who is against it would be affected in anyway, especially with the drop-down of what their name used to be.

Questions lead to learning, learning leads to kowledge, knowledge leads to understanding, understanding leads to peace.

"I would kill to get a killionaire... 10 times... digitally."

Not exactly at the end, but I would keep my numbers, as they hold deep meaning.

How is that not employing mass amounts of effort just to cater to your folly?

Why do we have to numbers at the end of our username anyway? Is it b/c someone was named Crazysnipe already?

  • 08.17.2012 3:05 PM PDT

Thesaurus.com

It's the same as a normal username change. Same resources would be used.

No, it's my original gamertag had a 55 in it so for people to be able to recognize me when I made a new one I put a 55 in my new one as well. Then I used that on BNet.

You're acting like it's only me who would use this resource. I didn't suggest that they make a feature called the "CrazzSnipe55 Username Fixer" that allows you to get rid of the 55 in your username if your username is CrazzySnipe55. The feature being proposed is clearly one for a wide variety and large amount of people, should they choose to use it.

Either way.

They would either have to give total control or do it manually. That is something I don't see them doing.

People who suggest ignore features want the feature for themselves. They could care less if other people have it; they think its a good feature and want it. The same goes for notifications. Or any other suggestion (other than, like, friends lists or IMing that require more than one person to function). People who suggest things are usually in favor of things they suggest.

Ya caught me.

There's a difference between suggesting something you think will improve the site and wanting the whole webteam to work on something for the sake of your own vanity.

Actually, Achronos is toying with the idea with tying name changing to a Bungie Pro feature. Nothing is confirmed but he has commented on it.

Posted by: Achronos
Actually, the suggestion of tying it to Bungie Pro was because I thought that we'd want to gate it. It isn't about making money, it is about making sure an anonymous griefer isn't constantly changing his name. If he's a Bungie Pro subscriber, he wouldn't have been just another anonymous user.

We've moved on from that line of thinking a while ago, though. User Identity is a bigger problem that needs more than just a bandaid solution. But rest assured that the inflexibility of login names has been part of our thinking in this area; your complaints have been heard.

Posted by: POKEY CLYDE
I think the allowing Bungie Pro members to change their username every once in a while was purely for profit. There was a demand for changing usernames, there was a service on Bungie.net you could subscribe to for money (Bungie pro).

To give members incentive to subscribe to this service, Achronos and the online team were probably considering, or giving it thought to add this feature (changing of the username every once in a while) so that more users would subscribe to the service, making Bungie more profit.

With Bungie Pro being gone, I don't think this feature will be implemented, unless you pay for it.

I think that it'd help people's peace of mind with having the identity and username that they want. If I didn't want to help the community with this suggestion, I wouldn't have amended my OP to add other people's ideas that would benefit them and not me.

That was just to disguise your motives, so you could make this very argument when confronted.

I had an idea a while ago, and I've been sitting on it.

If New Hawtness did away with WLID as a sign in, what if they also allowed everyone who was still a member in the system to change their name once and only once?

But that is just me being an idiot.

But that's just it, many people won't have that peace of mind. No offense but ever since this was posted, I know a lot of people that are disappointed that they won't ever have the tag on bnet that they want. The username I want is unfortunately taken and no one will ever be able to have that name. My only option is to figure out who owns that account, contact him and have him change the name so I can have it. The odds of that happening is 0.

There are tons of "dead" accounts like this and people that are actually active won't be able to have those names. With your idea, I would be able to remove "031" and end up with "spawn", but that's already taken so that won't work. Have a full fledge name change option (Like Xbox Live) is the best idea IMO.

I wasn't anticipating having someone try to play Sherlock Holmes and discover my nonexistent ulterior, more selfish, motives. So no, I did not do so to combat an argument I didn't think I would have to combat. I'm no psychic, my dude.

Clearly lots of people won't get what they want out of the situation, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't work for some.

Yes, MURDUR, I know. "Clearly you're just making more excuses so that this system can be implemented for you." But you can find flaws like that in any plan.

Notifications: Some people (like evilcam I think it was) dislike notifications and would get annoyed by them.

Friends List: Some people don't want this place to get too social because it's only a game developers website for their fans and they don't want to make friends here.

Instant Messaging: Too much like Facebook (for some people).

Custom Avatars: Ruins the special-ness of Ninjas and Employees having them and possibility for abuse.

While this downside for this suggestion actually affects which users would use the feature, that doesn't mean that the feature still isn't valid.

Side Note: Are usernames case sensitive? In other words, could I make an account named "SpAwN031" right now if I wanted to?

There's a difference between a "Ignore user" option and a "Ignore Ken" or "Ignore Mythics" option.

What I'm pointing out is your suggesting falls more into the latter side.

Real account.

Join me as we make new friends from different communities!

If you assign every letter of the alphabet a number, a is 1, b is 2, etc., and you take all of the values of the word "MATH", and add them, you get 42. So math is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

I love my username.

No.
