Ignore User is to Alter Username as Ignore Ken is to Alter CrazzySnipe55's Username.
Which is what you were originally suggesting, until you added more examples to make the suggestion seem less self centred.

The original suggestion was removing up to three numbers from the end of your name, I mean how specific is that? I'm assuming you said three instead of two so it would seem less like it's revolving around your name.

I said remove ALL numbers or remove 3 characters, and provided the example of "xX" at the end of a username. If I wanted to make it about me, I would've just made a thread about removing numbers.

Honestly, your argument about my self-centeredness could be applied to anyone who makes a notifications thread because "Oh, you're self centered and just want to know when you're quoted. Narcissist!" or "You just want a friends list to make managing your group easier! You don't give a -blam!- about everyone else!" or "You just want a custom avatar for you so you're like a ninja!!!" or "You don't want more mods, you just want to be one!"

Stop trying to uncover my fake selfishness. I was suggesting a legitimate feature that also applies to me. It makes sense that I would come up with it since it -blam!- applies to me. Christ, man.

e: The 3 characters was because I still believe people should be left with some semblance of their original username, but should be able to get rid of undesirable bits and I picked an arbitrary lowish number. Make it -blam!- four for all I care. Or 2. OMG NO IF IT WAS TWO THEN IT WOULD JUST BE ALL ABOUT ME I FORGOT!

Okay, only one. You get to remove one character guys. That's the idea now so that it doesn't help me.

I should make a thread about how people with synonyms for killing in their names should get cookies. Extend it also to the people with M in their name not to make it too limiting.

Oh? You think this hypothetical thread is about me?
Oh no I just wanted people to have cookies, including myself but that's just coincidence.

Anyway this is getting way too derailing at this point to further justify.
We should probably stop.

You're trying to solve a problem with a solution which still doesn't really solve it at all.

I mean, removing numbers and a few characters? No other site provides you with that functionality because it's silly (and a waste of time for a developer). Instead they give you an option to completely change your username, which I dare say is the actual issue here.

It probably would take less resources.
Only thing that might cause an issue would be the recycling of old names.
Like the hip hopping of the gamertag "Lord British" on XBL.

Perhaps a "Original Name" in the profile or Signature?
It would help to avoid confusion.

If I did anything, I would capitalize my name to Squirrel Dude.

I have seen other sites that have a name change feature that works like so:
- Name can be changed once a month
- When you navigate to someone's profile, there is a list of all the names they have ever used.

I do not think name changes should be available that often, I don't even know if they should be available at all, but I'm just voicing that if there were such a feature, navigating to a user's profile would end most confusion.

Stupidity, when sufficiently advanced, is indistinguishable from magic

I don't think you should change your name even if you could. I personally like the idiosyncrasy.

I tend to try to butcher my ideas sometimes to allow for greater acceptance. It usually just ends up with an idea that nobody likes.

Also, I feel like removing the numbers applies to enough people (with all of the "I wish I hadn't had the number at the end of my name" posts or notes that I've seen). And, honestly, I feel like a username changing idea would be okay with the proviso of a drop-down of their original name. But, whatever.

This thread was not very well thought out and I'm suffering the consequences.

If there's a way to regulate the change then yes. I want a capital D!

You will never have your capital D, Mr. Nop.

That's such a specific thing to ask for though. Like, you're asking for something that's, more or less, tailored to your needs.

It started out as nonspecific. Removing numbers from the end of your name. Plenty of people dislike those on their username, I figured it'd be beneficial. Then I thought about those who had X's or I's or O's or whatever at the beginning or end of their username that they didn't want and included that. Then people discussed wanting to add numbers and capitalize letters so I added that.

The 3 characters thing doesn't relate to me at all, its just arbitrarily specific.

Why not stop by my File Share while you're here?

~Long Live Halo 2
Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

1. Why only the end?
2. I still want to change my username.

It was just to make it not an entire change to usernames only because I figured I'd get too much flack if I proposed an entire username change (also, it's been done before and I don't think that I could make it different enough to make it worth a discussion).

You asked to change pretty much everything but usernames in entirety. Not a very good job of trying to keep it different then.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

Active 9/1/11, Heroic 12/25/12

I am completely in favor of a username change option. I understand that some of you just want to remove some unwanted letters or numbers but a full name change option would be more practical.

  • 08.17.2012 10:34 PM PDT

So many people know me as "Blah" I would probably change that. Either that or remove the 51 And fix the spacing.

I think it would be simpler just to allow name changes however.

Could've gone better had you typed "You can change up to and including any 4 characters of your username" or something similar.
