Owning Noobs Since 05

I have a better Idea, instead of getting rid of the numbers why don't we just replace them with magical ponies?

You're trying to solve a problem with a solution which still doesn't really solve it at all.

I mean, removing numbers and a few characters? No other site provides you with that functionality because it's silly (and a waste of time for a developer). Instead they give you an option to completely change your username, which I dare say is the actual issue here.

This, it seems that the web team is aware of this issue but they haven't been able to figure out how to bypass this security issue or whatever the issue is. Hopefully they'll be able to figure it out soon, so we don't have repetitive threads about people wanting to change their username.

The reason you can't has to do with security - same reason why you can't change your Live ID on bungie.net.

Maybe at some point. I might also be able to bypass the security problem on changing names by allowing Bungie Pro users to change their bungie.net user names every so often. The Live ID issue is more tricky, because of several external factors.

Actually, the suggestion of tying it to Bungie Pro was because I thought that we'd want to gate it. It isn't about making money, it is about making sure an anonymous griefer isn't constantly changing his name. If he's a Bungie Pro subscriber, he wouldn't have been just another anonymous user.

We've moved on from that line of thinking a while ago, though. User Identity is a bigger problem that needs more than just a bandaid solution. But rest assured that the inflexibility of login names has been part of our thinking in this area; your complaints have been heard.

I think the allowing Bungie Pro members to change their username every once in a while was purely for profit. There was a demand for changing usernames, there was a service on Bungie.net you could subscribe to for money (Bungie pro).

To give members incentive to subscribe to this service, Achronos and the online team were probably considering, or giving it thought to add this feature (changing of the username every once in a while) so that more users would subscribe to the service, making Bungie more profit.

With Bungie Pro being gone, I don't think this feature will be implemented, unless you pay for it.

I'd get rid of that 1 and replace it with a 7.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

My username is actually perfect. Still a good idea, however.

Spare me from this horrible user name please. I always use to keep tabs on the original Hawkeye/Hawk usernames in hopes their accounts delete and I can change mine someday. But then account deletion was disabled

I wouldn't have a use for such a name change, so I honestly wouldn't care. If we were however talking about a full on name change, then that would be a different story.

Yeah. I think being able to remove numbers would make you look a lot cleaner. Same with anyone else. However, being able to change your name completely sounds simpler.

I don't think it'd be out of the realm of reason that if you removed numbers from your name, you got an absent member's name, that you then get that name. But if this username modification idea has any chance of getting accepted, the chance is so low that the clause about the absent users chance of being included about equal to the space between the function in a cuberoot of x function and the x axis.

Terrible visual. I know.

While losing your title isn't hugely negative, you do still lose it. And your join date, and your identity in general.

The prospect of everyone with an uncreative name admitting their embarrassment to the avatar of their choosing is truly humorous, but I will yield my pseudonyms change over time.

I would not wish to modify this name (as certain specific members in the past have in fact been able to), and would personally rather create a new account with different name than alter this.
