Now, before I start, I would like it please that we have a nice discussion about this, and not have this discussion result in a flame war. Also, if the moderators feel this should be moved to ‘The Flood’ then so be it. And, if Bungie is offended by what I have to say, then go right ahead and do what needs to be needed. Without further ado, let us begin.

I noticed awhile back that some of the marines refer to Master Chief as ‘sir’, which, by this grid (found in World Book 2003 Edition, says that Master Chief petty officer (shortened to Master Chief) is an Enlisted Personnel, not even a warrant officer, and an NCO (Non commissioned officer). I’m not claiming this grid as my own, so I hope I’m not violating anything when I post such material.
Therefore, it isn’t right, by my research, to call Master Chief ‘sir’, but is it right to call him just ‘Master Chief’. But, it is okay to call Captain Keyes ‘sir’ because he is a commissioned officer. Master Chief petty officer is, you already know, an NCO in the navy.
Now, am I mistaken? The reason I ask is not to ridicule Halo and Bungie, but to ask if I am correct about this, or if this was a mistake, or, something has changed in the military that I don't know about. So, if I am wrong, please correct me.
So, I will repeat myself: Please, don’t let this turn into a flame war, I wish to know the answer to this question.

Ok, so maybe they don't have to call him sir, but maybe the marine and navy personal call him sir for a different reason. If you have read the novels, then you would know that Spartans aka Super Soldiers were known to most of the military as near mythilogical soldiers. Soldiers that looked part Greek God, and part Machine. Soldiers that were believed to be invincible, though they were not, but everyone in the military did'nt know that, as the report of Spartan deaths could lower the military troops morale, and that was something the human race could not afford. So my point is, when these troops that were all aboard the POA, who had never seen a Spartan before finally see one, of course they are going to refer to him as Master Chief Sir. Do you know why they will call him sir? Because of who he is and not his rank. So this is what I believe. I might be right, I might be wrong, but to me this makes sense.
