Subject: Bungie's Legacy

Man of God. Fan of Bungie. Eater of many Jr. Bacon cheeseburgers.

What do you think is Bungie's biggest contribution/effect on the game industry? What have they set the bar for in games, community management, and manliness? What is their legacy? Other than just "Halo".

It's obviously Halo.

Or I guess you could say something along the lines of FPS games.

I'd have to say "Halo".

I feel they set the standard for an addictive FPS.

Bungie's biggest legacy, other than Halo, would probably be the way they changed FPS shooters.

This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

I would imagine their greatest achievement is yet to come.

Online statistics. Most other games only seem to be getting similar systems that Bungie have been using for years.

Matchmaking mechanics. Some devs had servers and game rooms and all that, but Bungie really got matchmaking right. Perfected it, one could say.

Statistics, in-game and ancillary file-sharing secondly, and in-game level editors as well.

I'd also list the website among its triumphs that serve to make Bungie's legacy even more impressive.

Welcome to the town of "Diligence." I'm Mayor Due.

It has to be their matchmaking system. Halo 2 was a milestone in online console gaming. No other game could even touch it at the time. I could safely hazard a guess here and say that many game developers have tried to emulate what they had done, some with success, but are always building on that foundation Bungie built.

I can only imagine... I hope Destiny is incredible. It would be so gratifying to know we stayed through the darkness and then when Destiny becomes a huge hit and new members come, we will be those old farts that say "Back in my day, all we had was a mail sack" lol
