Recently, i made a thread reminiscing about the old "Late Night Flood" threads. You may remember them, or the older forms that inspired them (Flood Sleepover, Flood Bar, etc) as threads made in the latest hours of night (or the wee hours of the morning for most people). In these threads, Floodians would gather to talk about anything and everything. Usually the poster would mention something (the weather, and event, his day, or literally anything) which would spark the conversation. After that anything was up for discussion.
In my thread about the old threads, many members talked about how great the LNFs were. Several of us decided to revive them. So, several days later, i did with this Late Night Flood thread. We posted for a while and had a merry time, but the thread was locked.
I was told the thread didn't generate discussion on a particular subject matter, and that the event should be moved to chatroom of some sort. Normally i'm not one to disagree with the mods, but this raises two issues for me, and likely for many of the other posters of the Late Night Flood.
First off, although this is more to promote the second point than anything else, the thread had over 150 replies at my last check, nearly seven pages. If you scroll through the thread you'll see various topics: Weather, Music, Seasons, Hobbies, and life in general. Not to mention the Original Thread which sparked our interest in the reboot of LNF had 5 pages itself. I don't see how a topic with approximately 13 pages can be said to not generate discussion. I can see that the thread doesn't have a 'specific subject matter,' but it certainly does generate discussion.
Secondly, what is wrong with a thread being broad in subject matter? If polite, fun discussion is being generated by members, and no rules ar broken, what's the problem? Many threads can be described as having a 'vague' subject, and even those that aren't are likely to eventually stray off course. Personally, i don't see he harm in a thread being used for a broad, 'General Discussion," especially in a forum targeted for the discussion of general topics.
So, my question to the Community and Moderators of B.net is this: Should Late Night Flood and similar, broad discussion threads be allowed in the Flood?
And secondly, could some alterations be made to the thread, so that Late Night Flood will live on in some form?
