Forget about the haters here. People in the Halo community wish to have a secondary option added to the game. We purchase the game, the console, and have subscriptions to Xbox Live, and we have a right to ask for features that we would like. If you don't like the topic, then don't read or comment it.
Halo 3 NEEDS a true Optimatch system. I for one LOVE playing custom matches, however, there is no way of finding one. The problem is the inablity to search for custom matches.
As for the people who complain that there would be too many matches in the list... Who cares? I don't see a problem w/ that. The more matches around, the better. Besides, we are not saying that we ONLY want the true optimatch system, we are asking for an implementation of BOTH. If you don't like the system, then don't use it. Just use standard MM.
Some people complain that the community will dry up. Not true. If a game is good, people will play it. Halo 2 has GREAT gameplay. That is why people play it. Most do not play it for the rank. How can I prove that? Bungie has been creating more and more non-ranked playlists. Team SWAT, an unranked playlist, currently has the highest amount of players on Halo 2. So, that argument > /dev/null.
If anything, GOOD players have been leaving Halo 2 for other games, because of the lack of a true optimatch system.
Has there been an official word from Bungie that a true optimatch system will be in Halo 3? And, if they do implement it, they MUST make it so that people can join while a match is playing, and NOT force them to enter a new match and force them to wait for a host to start it (Like in MechAssault 2, which IMO ruined the online gameplay).
