Don't judge a book by its cover, unless it has bacon on the cover, then it is a good book.

-Me

First I would like to start off by saying that the reason I am making this visible to all mod's is because I know some have slightly different views on what is ban worthy so I wanted to ask all in one thread.

In regards to the profanity filter, if you say the word for poop it comes out as -blam!- obviously. but would you guys consider it avoiding the profanity filter if I spelled it sh t, like they do on TV? or is that acceptable?

I am capable of having a conversation without cussing, but there have been instances where one of the words would have actually provided conversation and value to the thread in a positive way.

-thanks

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

You don't need cursing to have a good discussion

Just looks like profanity filter avoidance to me.

In a way that is bypassing the filter, so yes, don't -potatoes!- do that.

This is thorny ground. As long as you're not intentionally avoiding the filter by, for example, adding extraneous characters, you're not breaking any rules. Profanity itself isn't against the rules, but for some reason dodging the filter (even for constructive uses) is an instant ban.

Well, it's an instant ban if a certain subset of moderators catch you anyway.

The word you put in your OP would constitute a ban. I'd even edit it out of this post if I were you. I've lost count of the number of people banned for dodging the profanity filter in a thread asking if they can dodge the profanity filter.

He knows of the way to make it invisible to mods. Our numbers are growing.

OT: That's a lot of rules they'd have to go over, it just seems easier to use your best judgement.

I'm gonna finish it. Just like Jigga did to the pyramid.

I would advise you do not evade the profanity filter, it will be met with a warning or ban.

Just remember that no matter how terrible you feel, or how much you want to let go, there are people who care about you and love you.

Don't ever bypass it by any means, ever.

Technically that's bypassing the filter OP.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Depends on the moderator for something like that, but yeah, in general, cutting out a letter or two, abbreviating the curseword, or otherwise changing/removing letters from the curseword to avoid having it "blammed out" would be evading the profanity filter.

In all honesty, though, despite what some other users in this thread think, this is almost always a warning (or sometimes just an edit to the post and a PM sent) for most moderators. The only exception being if a user has a long history of evading the profanity filter or if the user is also breaking other rules in the thread. The latter is most often the reason for a ban, since these words are often used to flame or antagonize other users.

I'm pretty sure that most... If not all conversations could have heavy value without cussing. That's how politicians do it. You don't need to swear, and swearing really doesn't get you anywhere fast, it just makes you think it does.

I'm interested more into how the swearing would add to the discussion value of a thread.

By doing that you are flirting with the banhammer. I'd just stay away from that. Flirting with the hammer will only bring you pain and sorrow.

Condoms aren't always safe, my friend was wearing one and got hit by a bus.

Everything should be moderated in context. If you're just being an idiot and dropping letters to avoid the censor as you're arguing/shouting with somebody, then get the ban/warning.

Or if you say "oh sht, I didn't know that. thanks for telling me sir.", then it should be looked over.

Furious George: The new -blam!-

The fact that there's such a demand for cursing on this board makes me glad there's a filter. Is this some kind of ongoing practical joke or do you really need to be able to get away with swearing that bad?

Also, like Fo said, if you get banned for bypassing the filter, it's also likely because you broke another rule or you have a history of bypassing the filter. We aren't out to get you, you know.

Lies and slander!

OT: you don't need to curse to hold a -blam!- conversation.

Not every word that is filtered is necessarily a curse word. Take for example -blam!- orientation. See? Can't even say -blam!-, and that's not sexy at all.
