That's a terrible example. That post would get reported and minimized and the offender would get banned.
If there are no mods on they will not be banned. It takes a while to have their post minimized, and they will make more posts like that.

It is also hard to report if they keep doing it in the same thread because it's hard to find the report button. It is a perfect example.

It is not. This is not a feature meant for rule breakers, it is meant for people who you dislike personally or people who's ideas you don't wish to read. This is what you do:

1. Report.

2. Don't reply to the post.

3. PM a Ninja or two. Use ModStalk to see who most recently posted and PM the 3 most recent (that's what I do).

That person will be given a large ban without a doubt and thus your ignoring will have no purpose within 24 hours of seeing the offending post.

Here is what you can do if the ignore option were implemented:

1. Click ignore.

Isn't that easier than what you quoted?

It is one click of a button, not several clicks of a button and a message to multiple ninjas who may or may not be active. Plus, bans can easily be evaded.

I was only suggesting an ultimate solution to the problem, you coul just click report and move on. Something like that doesn't happen enough to warrant the creation of this feature though. It's like making an entirely new branch of the military dedicated to combat on mountain-tops; the effort required is not equal to the payoff of the action.

Bad analogy. It takes less effort to click a button than to click several.

Not a bad analogy because you didn't understand what the analogy was on reference to.

If you're trying to say that the one legitimate circumstance for an ignore button is on people who spam very long posts that are eyesores, then I am saying that that does not happen nearly enough to warrant the creation of this feature. You probably should've fully read or reread my post so that you understood the analogy in full.

This.
So is the ability of sight.

Doesn't mean humans ever stop looking for a way to improve ability, understanding, comfort, and ease.

What if new users to the site simply block every person that doesn't have the exact same opinion as them? I don't think that the problem is if we can ignore a post ourselves or not, the problem is that members wouldn't see the whole community, they would just see what they want to see. I know that experienced members wouldn't use the feature to alter their experience drastically, but what stops the new users from doing that?
It's their experience, I wouldn't care. If ignoring posts isn't the issue and is something we already do like you said, would this feature not make what we already do easier? I would guess that anyone who would use the system like that already discards disagreeing thoughts.

The fact that there are posts in this thread that makes me want to punch kittens is sure proof that an Ignore system would be beneficial. If I feel you are a general negative person whenever I talk to you over these forums, why shouldn't I be able to never see your posts again? Why Should I have to suffer seeing the truly negative posts that you make? If I ignore you, I wouldn't have to see you makes such posts and you can continue discussing God Knows What with everyone else.

Well I just got the Ignore userscript so the point is moot. If I see someone posting crap I never want to see again, I'll give him the boot.

The problem isn't that another person wrote something that bothers a reader/viewer/visitor/member. The problem is (at least to me) is that the reader/viewer/visitor/member is allowing some anonymous jerk to ruin their experience.
That's a fair and logical point, but is it a practical one for the entirety of Bungie.net users?

Without any technological intervention or button clicking, I am willing to bet that I have ignored over 50% of the posts in this very thread.

No clicking, no technology, no worries.

If our hosts want to implement such a feature, I am fine with that. But just like the PM block feature, I (for one) am just as capable and better at ignoring text that I don't care about than any filter/feature could EVER be.

I am a Floodian

If someone posts crap that often, they're probably banned anyway.

I didn't think you were supposed to ignore posts. Or do you just read over them and forget once you're onto the next one?

I wasn't doubting your ability to ignore posts, and plenty of others at that. The problem you identified being people allow other users to dampen their experience, is it practical to expect all of the users here to have that same thinking and ability to filter?

But the posts in this thread have been calm and rational. It's pretty easy to ignore 2 users having a discussion, or posts that repeat points that you've already acknowledged.

Now, if I started flaming, or trolling, or saying things to just annoy people, you would probably ban me (which is the same thing as ignoring me, but for everyone else as well). Why shouldn't I be able to ignore someone in the meantime, between when the problem starts and you dealing with it? What if other people don't have a problem clicking a button to ignore someone?

Like I said, if our hosts implement a feature and members use it, I have NO problem whatsoever with that and am glad that they have a feature that they use and like.

But for me, as long as I have been on the Internet, as much vile and truly nasty things that I have seen and read? I am almost completely unsquickable, and my asbestos underoos are still working fine.
