I belive that the covenant and the humans realized that in order to survive the flood they had to join forces. Then the humans allowed the flood on the earth so that they all could survive. Then after the activation they went back to being enemies.

If the Ark had a shield to protect Earth from the Flood, wouldn't the Forerunners have used it to survive the Containment process. I think the fact that the Forerunners were wiped out indicates that the Ark doesn't have a shield around Earth.

...My, My, how could i resist you!

Sorry couldn't resist a sing along....

The only way the whole Ark thing actually makes sense is if the Forerunner aren't a single race but a group of races like the Covenant. So at one time Humans, Prophets, Eiltes, Brutes etc... all were part of what we now call the Forerunner. For whatever reason they went their separate ways after the activation and returned to their home planet.

Well, at least, thats the only way it make sense to me....

I'm sorry, but that doesn't work. Halo kills any sentient being with sufficient biomass to sustain the Flood

OH and this guy is making some sense. How come the Covie managed to survive? I don't think they came from another galaxy or anything just to declare a holy war on us :P

Stu - Could it not be possible that the covanant were simply out of range? Never does it say that the covanant are from our galaxy.

LOOL! Refer to above post

Yes it's possible... But in that case they'd have to be capable of Inter Galactic Space Travel... we don't even know if the Forerunner are that advanced. Presumable not because they all died out in this galaxy...

Oh and before someone suggests it the Halo system cover the entire Milky Way Galaxy....

The key factor here that I havn't seen addressed are the millions of species of ANIMALS LIVING ON EARTH. Most animal species on earth have been evolving for over 100,000 years, like humans. Animals are sentient life (sentient=conscious), and therefore would have been wiped out when the halos were activated 100,000 years ago, unless they too were protected by the ark.

one hole in your theory, especially this part. halo doesn't destroy all sentient life, it destroys all sentient life with ENOUGH BIO MASS to support the flood. i doubt a kitten or anything smaller then a black bear or any other large land animal meets that criteria, therefore is not targeted by the halos.

god theory, i could easily see that being the ending, the Halos are activated and all but earth is destroyed

halo doesn't destroy planets. many off the wall theories that people insult are born because of a lack of information.

But not 100,000 years. At least not from non-sentient life form to Human...thats too big a leap...

Yes but 100,000 years is enough to change the whole sufficient biomass thing

You know, now that I think of it.
How exactly does Halo work?
Does it work in such a way that something like a neutron star, or an asteroid field or something dampen's it's effects?

It is known that the halos were last activated about 100,000 years ago (Guilty Spark mentions this).

The years that they use on Halo Installations are local years. This means that it isn't the exact same as Earth. They could be longer then 100,000 years on earth.

  • 06.21.2006 4:51 PM PDT

Your theory has a few gaps in it. If Earth was the Ark then how did the covenant survive considering that their probaly living closer to Forerunner homeworlds and Halos than the Humans hence the technologies such as plasma and shields. And what about Coral? It was metioned in the booklet. Explain that and you could solve a piece of the puzzle.

we mentioned this a little ways back bactereia
the covenat could have been the same way finding ruins and weapons and evolving to learn how to use and make them?
