Subject: Community Joe Interview: A 3 Legged Goat

A 3 Legged GoatTodays interview is with a rather quiet member of the community who has recently been lurking a lot and keeping to the shadows much like Bungie themself. Anyhow you can sit back and relax now..

Q: So, just who are you and what do you do?A: My folks named me Zk, and when I'm not masquerading as a farm animal, I like to simply create. Anything from cartoon animations and puppets to game scores and short films. Though I'm normally reserved with my works, I hope to someday display them to others and have them serve not only as an inspiration, but as fulfillment for me. The greatest feeling to me is seeing my ideas come to life for others to appreciate.

Q: Oh really? where do you display your creations? Do you have a website or a youtube page?A: I do actually have a Youtube channel with some Halo-related content posted up there. My animation projects haven't been publicly solicited yet, but those I am collaborating with from Newgrounds.com are working diligently and should have some goodies for others to enjoy in the coming months. I'm slowly learning that while it's good to receive feedback during production, it's best not to post unfinished material just yet. I like having a 'panel' of people to bounce ideas off of, as it helps further the creative process.

Q: Ahh thats cool, that sounds pretty interesting. Whats the background of your username?A: Ah, the million dollar question. Several years ago, I had quite a few disturbing encounters with the horned beasts. I was bitten by one at a neighbor's ranch, and I nearly choked on homemade goat stew shortly after. This was coincidentally around the time 'The Men who Stare at Goats' debuted in theaters, and I felt as though I was being tormented by them. To make things worse, my parents had acquired a month's supply of goat's milk, and it was then that I knew that my life had been intertwined with the bleating animal. When it came time to make my own gamertag for Xbox LIVE, I knew it would have to do with Goats somehow. I decided that I wanted a name others would remember when they were on their respawn screen. To me, there was nothing funnier than hearing the reactions of players who had been splattered by a Goat, and one with 3 legs I might add (though whether the goat is actually missing a leg is left up the interpretation of each individual).

Q: Hahaha, thats better than the story for my username! What was the original first Bungie game you played?A: Like many others, I was introduced to the magic of Halo when I was much too young to even be playing it. My father worked at Microsoft for a couple of years, and one day he brought my brother and I to his office. We sat in a conference room with nothing but a massive table, a whiteboard, several office chairs, and a Television set. Attached to this television was an Xbox, 2 controllers, and a brand new copy of Halo: Combat Evolved. Oblivious to what would happen when we turned on the console, my brother and I picked up the controls, sat in the chairs, and then we saw it. Halo in all its glory was before me, and I was in love. We played it for hours until we both screamed in terror as that first Zealot on Silent Cartographer charged at is, to whom we referred to as "The Lightsaber Guy". From then on, my interest in Halo only peaked. I would go on to spill blood all over Blood Gulch and capture Flags all across Sidewinder with many of my neighbors at LAN parties. However, it would take one game that truly stood out to me to finally get me to make my own official alias here. Though I've played all of the Halos and even dabbled around Marathon a few years ago, the first Bungie game that I was 100% captivated by was ODST.

Q: Hahaha the 'lightsaber guy'. I know what you mean though, i've tried to kill him and get through before the door shuts. Hmm, ODST.. that was rather late? During this time did you ever visit bungie.net?A: I browsed the front page of Bungie.net a few times back when the Halo 3 beta was around. I didn't know much about Bungie or even Halo 3 at the time because I was focused on the Halo 2 scene. I played Halo 3 for a while with my friends when it was released, but I didn't purchase my own copy until the summer of 2009. It would only be months later that I'd witness the Prepare to Drop commercials for ODST, and then go on to acquire my own copy as well. I paid 80 bucks for what most would consider a 40 dollar game, but to me that was $80 well spent. It introduced me to the awesome Bungie community and provided me with my most memorable single-player experience to date.

Q: Ahh right, 'Halo Recon' sounded cooler than it was I think. Anyway what other websites do you visit aside from bungie?A: I visit Newgrounds.com to browse the Flash content there quite often. It's really awesome to see other people's ideas come to life, and this in turn helps me shape my own. Before B.net, I became an active member of a few MMO communites, but none of them stole my attention as much as you guys did. Around Reach's prime, I would frequent forging communities such as Forgehub, ReachingPerfection.com, and XForgery. However, as Halo activity has diminished over these last few days, it's mostly been balanced the former communities. I hope to get back into the other communities later this year.

Q: And you'll stay here I take it? Also are you looking forward to the next hawtness?A: Though I am predominantly a Halo fan, Bungie's community is one that's grown on me. I can't really imagine talking about Halo without hearing Achronos or Urk tell us how wrong our initial assumptions are. So I'll definitely be around for a little longer. I have some promises to keep after all! I'm also really looking forward to what else the minds behind Halo can come up with, though to be honest I don't see how they could top the original trilogy. Nevertheless, when Destiny makes headlines, I'll do what I can within the community--with far less complaining of course.

Okay we have a new feature to community joes, members of the community have put forward questions, i've chosen two of them.

Community Q #1:
'MiloOmega' asks; how long do you think you could last in a fight against DeeJ?
A: During a Ride Along event, DeeJ pulled off a rather ninja-esque assassination on me. As I watched my body tumble down paradiso's mountain, this question also crossed my mind. I'd say it wouldn't be too long though if he manages to pull another one of those off!

Community Q #2:
'Jose291' asks; can you brag something you are proud of? (Ex: Making it into Bungie favorites, having a forge map into MM, Being the lucky one of the seven..)
A: I do have several Halo-related accomplishments that I'm proud of, but it wouldn't be right for me to take credit for them and leave out those who made it possible. I do have a [lousy] map in Reach matchmaking, and I have had others featured as well. I love forging, but I'd say what I hold closest to me about Bungie.net is the fact that I had the ability to provide information and discussion to others during Reach's development stages. I think being part of something bigger than myself is why I enjoy this community so much.

Q: Okay, well its been a pleasure to have you today, prehaps this community joe is something you can be pround of. So finally, you got any shout-outs?A: Oh the pleasure is all mine. I enjoyed this chat and I appreciate the opportunity. It has definitely helped me to realize that B.net will always be my home no matter how many times I try to run away from it. I'd like to express my gratitude to the 3 aforementioned forgers, as well as those who I shared my own brief forging community with back in 2010. I'd also like to thank Hylebos for inspiring me to contribute to this community, as well as members of the various offshoots of the tryhard community who helped me to play Halo better. I'm very grateful to those who have supported my various endeavors into the community, and I appreciate their continuing support even when I fail to deliver on time. I'd also like to thank you Arbitor 5 for the interview, and those who supported the crazy idea of inquiring about me. And of course, none of us would be here if it weren't for Bungie and their kick-ass games, so I thank them as well. Halo and its community has been a big part of my life for the last decade. The friendships I've established and creative wonders I've explored via the community are irreplacable. Thanks again everyone! Oh, and the thread in the Reach forum is only in cyro-stasis

I broke one of the cords for my X11s because I couldn't get past the final American course in Doritos Crash Course.

I always enjoy these - the community questions is a great idea too.

Didn't know Goat was an animator too, I miss the days when I used to do it. Such a painful art form sometimes, but very rewarding. Nice interview.

I enjoy animation a lot. It is indeed very tedious (especially since I'm doing frame-by-frame), but I can't get over seeing something that I created walking and talking. It's like making a diaperless baby with a surrogate.

I've gotten a few PMs and I just want to clarify again that whether the goat is missing a leg or just dragging along a disturbingly large [redacted] is left to the individual to interpret. The initial idea was to humiliate the other person when they realized they were killed by a crippled goat. It wasn't until later that I discovered the obvious innuendo behind it. So either way is fine.

Thanks again for this Arbitor 5. OP didn't mention that we hopped onto ODST when we finished and ran around New Mombasa for a little while. I'm always down to play now that I've got my gamertag info back in order

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Very nice. I've wondered why you call yourself one of those.
Cool.

There was somebody with the tag "About 32 Llamas" that I played against in Halo 3 back in 2009. If anything, that was all the more reason to try for an animal-related tag, though I don't think mine is nearly is amusing as that one.
